You are planning to protection train this dog then?
No no no..I do not know enough about it...

Why wAs he rehoming her?
Hes moving back to NJ in a few months and he has 2 other 100lb dogs and he said his wife just wont get off his back about it. The other 2 were his kids dogs so I guess they werent about to get rid of them..

Is she from work lines and thus bred to be a bit sharper than your average GSD?
Umm idk he gave me no papers, except the vets, but Im not really worried about it. Not using her
for breeding

She's cute! But I have never heard of the expression "fooey" or anything resembling that as a German expression for "no/bad dog". :)

I'm going to be 100% honest here, because anything else won't let me sleep tonight.

I'm glad you're happy you got your GSD and that she seems to be listening to you so far. However, I have serious misgivings about this whole situation and about the honesty of the guy who gave you the dog in the first place. Something about giving a "protection trained" dog to a young person who has no idea what they're in for sits wrong with me. I have to say my first impression is that this is a poorly bred GSD with snappy nerves and the guy was looking to unload her...those feet aren't just huge, they're "wrong".

And please, please, PLEASE DO NOT set your baby down on the ground in between two dogs who don't know each other! I want this to turn out well for you and I really REALLY don't want to log in one day and hear that your baby had to go to the hospital and the two dogs to the vet because of something like that.

Enroll in an obedience class immediatly. Not for the dog, for you. You have to know how to handle what you've set yourself up for.

Best of luck.

a "protection trained" dog to a young person who has no idea what they're in for
He never started with her..
Did I post that? Must have miss posted.

Ok so I just read the post again and I see where you would think that.
He said alls hes done so far is socialized her with young children and other sorts of people. He was just explaining thats what they do in the force..
He told me if I want to continue to 'protection train' to not let anyone pet the dog w/o permison. He says this because (and I have seen it too) when someone just walks into my home univited you dont want the dog to be just like oh ladida about it, you want him/her to be aware this is not ok..
She seems like a very sweet dog and thus so far has gotton MUCH MUCH better with Mary.

Thank you! The guy said thats one reason why he picked her, because she was such a unique color

she's very pretty.

BUT, I have to be honest with you, one of the first things you should do is get her into the vet, have the typical things done to/for her AND get an x-ray of those feet.:D

The feet look weird at the carpal joint. Any chance we could get a side profile? It's probably just the angle.

Also I agree with x-rays of the hips and feet (if they are indeed weird) just to see what the situation is currently.

I agree one hundred and ten percent with this post.

The dog's feet, they seem awfully splayed to me but I am by far and away no expert on dog feet of any breed, the dog being on Craig's list and meeting in the parking lot to save you some driving time, AND I wanted to jump out of my skin when I saw your baby out there with a strange dog.

I am skeptical by nature, things could be all you want and then some.........but it's ALWAYS better to land on the safe side than be sorry later.

Please play it safe and be cautious from here on out.........for the sake of all involved :)

I was thinking they looked odd myself..
Are you sure thats just not puppy feet?
I guess it could be. I don't know what others see but the only issue for me is they look like they bend wrong. Again that may just be the angle but they look like they're bending more like a human foot than a dogs.

They don't seem to be bending like that but rather that her metatarsal bones are resting on the ground rather than being up in the air.

The metatarsal bones are the long ones.

See how this shepherd mix is standing?

But again it could just be the angle. It's hard to tell.

She's very down on her pasterns - something I've seen before in GSDs, and it gives me the willies whenever I see it.
