So today my SO and I went to go look at a GSD I found on Craigslist. I was a little weary thinking 'Oh what if someone just threw this dog in the backyard and never did anything with it..'
BUT NO!
Turns out the guy is an ex-cop who has trained her in German! (and english too) She is EXCELENT! Needless to say she came home with us :)
I will post more later and some pics when my camera charges but for now I must go play!!!

Well earlier this week when it was looking doubtful about the dog from my family member (I guess who has a hidden problem with me cause she wont return my calls or emails..) I answered some ads on craigslist. On friday a man contacted me sending some pictures of his dog, Rudi (some of you saw). I told him I would like to meet her sunday at 1. Well since he lived an hour away he said he would meet me in the walmart parking lot so it would cut down on some driving time.
I was crossing my fingers this dog had some kind of sense cause you just never know with people on craigslist. Well it turns out this guy is an excop who use to work in the K-9 unit. He told me all about hows hes brought her up so far and how to continue to, if I want a protection dog. He said as puppies in the first year of like they heavily socialize them. He said he took Rudi weekly to a kindergarten class to get use to being with children. He said he never treat trains, he doesnt believe in it. Just praising. He said hes taught her German and English commands but was frequently using German in the parking lot so I guess I will continue using it, which I think is very cool btw! :) and the best thing is she really listens! I was so amazed. Usually you will see a young dog listen here and there but she is just..amazing. I have let her run off leash in the yard (which is not fenced) and she hasnt tried any funny business, lol. The man said he gives her 1000 mg of Vit C everyday, it helps with any kind of hip problems that might crop up and is overall good for the dog.
The only problem I am having with her is when I call Mary over she wants to get snippy. Like 'Hey back off this is mine'. When she starts getting in that mode I will tell her 'Fooey' (sp?) which is the German word for 'no/bad dog' and tap her under her chin or her chest. It seems to work as she backs off and lets mary come to me. They play out in the yard together fine...Its just inside.
I have givin her a shed to play with I tied a rag around it..She goes after it and LOVES it..
Heres some pictures..

You are planning to protection train this dog then? Like bitework etc? Are you experienced with that sort of thing? Why wAs he rehoming her? Is she from work lines and thus bred to be a bit sharper than your average GSD?
