His name is Duke, he's a 7 month old chocolate lab and around 45lbs and 19-20 inches. I've known him since he was a 14 week old pup at the daycare I work at. On saturday his owner came in and broke the news that he's looking for a new home. Just due to the usual reason, busy mom with overworked husband and two young children with busy lives. He does have a mild case of demodex mange (caught quite early, being treated) but otherwise is a happy, healthy boy. He's pretty lazy to what I'm used to (McGruff...) but I think he'll make a fantastic performance dog. He's handler orientated, maybe a bit too much, and is eager to learn. All the dogs here except for Kylie are very offended by his presence, but they'll get over it. He desperately want to make friends (he's the kind of dog that shoves his tongue down the throat of every dog.) and play but they're too defensive right now.

He's also very difficult to photograph since I can't seem to get more than 5ft away from him. Plus my skills as a photographer are poor. I'm also considering changing his name. I don't mind his name but I know a million Duke's... but he's been 'Duke' for as long as I've known him so I'm not sure. On to the photos!

Very tired from swimming in the river at the dog park today.

flashy box is boring. sigh.

That's it for now!

Thanks guys! Also, I totally would have forgotten about my avatar motto. I'm glad you mentioned it!

I'm pretty excited, I can't wait to start some training classes.

He's CUUUUTEE!!

I work in Daycare too, and I know a MILILION Dukes, lol. I'd give him a classier name than that :p

He's very handsome. He's similar in type to a lot of Chocolate Labs I see at my own job, even though you are WAAAY far away. I'm so happy for you though, that you finally got your dog!!

awww he's so cute!! :D I love his eyes!
If you're not crazy about the name, I say go ahead and change it ;) He'll catch on quickly! It's whatever you want, though!

Sure sounds like it was meant to be :p

Wow, he's gorgeous! Good on you for helping him out.

I've never met a dog called Duke, but I'm not keen on the name. I think he looks like a Charlie.

Thanks again everyone! I'm pretty pleased with him, especially his size.

My goodness, I think some days on busy days we have 5-6 Dukes at once. However I'm having a hard time imagining him with a different name. It's so familiar. Luckily now him and the previously offended Cocker puppy are now playing, much to his delight.

I love the name Wyatt! I'm not sure it suits him, but what a great name.

He's adapting really well, not stressed out or anxious. Which is great. He's a little weirded out, which is totally understandable.

Well, how cute is that! He's lovely, and it's so funny that he's trying to entice everyone into playing with him. That's a lab for you.

Wyatt is a great name, sooooo much better than Duke. Dogs learn new names very fast, especially if it involves treats. (After all, names are just people noises. His REAL name is a smell and a tilt of the head!)

Much thanks on the compliments, of course.

I'm not really worried about him picking up his new name - quick and easy with a clicker. I'm worried over myself adjusting to a new name, lol! Plus I get anxiety over whether I'll like a certain name forever. I'm picky. Unfortunately no to 'Charlie', it's a common name as well. I do like the name Charlie, but there's too many just like 'Duke'.

There will be many pictures to come I'm sure. I've already clicked a few more after I posted these ones, ha. I think I'm already going to sign up for some classes starting in April..

He's gorgeous! I lurve chocolate labs. I like Charlie as well but I think I only know one dog named Charlie....and he lives in Wyoming. If it was more common here I probably wouldn't like it as much. :p
