We have neighbors on one side of us that have a huge female mastiff & a doberman mix. They are always getting out of their yard for one reason or another. A couple of months ago, they got out and attacked our other neighbor's old Lab, who was also out of his yard. My hubby heard the commotion and grabbed a broom and beat the two dogs off the old one. It was all over by the time the neighbors showed up to help. The old Lab died of his injuries.
Nothing was done about these dogs. The two neighbors worked it out amongst themselves because all of their dogs were out of their yards and both to blame. We stayed out of it, but I wish now that we had called animal control or something. We did however tell them all that if their dogs were secure in their own yards, none of it would have happened.
Well, we noticed the neighbor (with the attacking dogs) fencing in a part of their back yard. The entire yard is fenced, but they have a gate to drive in and out, which they leave open nearly all the time. That's how the dogs get out so much. Anyway, we thought they were finally going to do something to keep their dogs contained. Well, we were wrong!
Yesterday after the fence was finished, we see them carrying puppies to the newly fenced area. The mastiff apparently had puppies! So she & the doberman are still allowed to roam everywhere causing trouble. The puppies were being kept inside and we had no idea she was even preggers. Now they are big enough to eat on their own, so they have been put outside.
I am angry because I see this problem multiplying instead of getting any better. And I feel sorry for the puppies who are not used to the cold. It was in the 20s last night.
