Be it an adoption fee, from a breeder etc ?

I couldn't justify spending over $600 on a dog. I'd be going the adoption route and anything over that seems insanity. The average adoption fee around here is $400 from a local shelter or a private rescue. The thought of spending over a grand frightens the pants off of me. To each their own.

We paid $1,200 for Charlie, and I'm not even going to say how much Kaia was.

The way I see it, it's an investment. Charlie was the pick puppy from his litter, and came from lines who were health tested up the wazoo with all excellent, good, and normal ratings. Kaia is out of one of the top 5 borzoi in the country, and her sire isn't getting bred half a dozen times. I'm really looking forward to conformation and performance competition with her.

Oh, totally. I understand why people pay that much. Not a route I would personally take. I'm simply curious to know what other people are comfortable with spending if they are willing to share it.

It would depend on the dog/breeder/breed etc for me.
I knwo one breeder that I would like a dog from one day. They sell pups for $850. I would pay over a grand if I thought it was worth it.
I would also one day consider importing a dog.

I could see about spending $1,000 for a good healthy dog from good lines. I've haven't spent that much yet on getting a dog Blue's adoption was like $105. I know for adoption I wouldn't spend over $400 for adopting fee.

I set my limit at $2000 for my next dog, and I feel fine with that. I don't think it'll end up costing that much, but that's what I'm planning for. I've got $465 in my savings account for far lol

If you want a good quality dog that is going to be more than a pet, you need to expect to pay a little more than you would for some BYB dog. I need a dog that can handle being a service dog, so I'm making certain that it's from a reputable breeder, health testing, early handling etc. That means a more expensive dog.

If I was getting just a pet, I'd set a limit at $150-200, and probably end up getting one form a shelter or rescue. Gavroche was free.

For adoption, I think the most would be at 300. Depending on the situation.
From a very good breeder, I would probably pay up to $3,000.

The one I am trying to talk myself out of is $125.

Couldn't go much over $300, I don't have much money, and I'd rather spend it on the dog itself, or at least saved for emergencies.

From a breeder? I don't know because I've never gone that route and don't know if I ever will.

From a rescue/shelter? It would depend on the situation because I DO look at that money as a charitable donation to help keep the shelter going to save other dogs. I could see us going $5-600 from a rescue/shelter, especially if that included vacs, neuter, etc. A neuter is over $200 for a male and well over $300 for a female around here anymore...........that's the way I look at it :)

Depends.

I have found a awsome breeder or Toy poodles. price wise, they ar around 1000 buks, seems like lo, But she is a OUTSTANDING Breeder to me. Makes sure she emails me right back ect.

Then on my other hand, I think, why get poodle from a breder,if I look hard enough Ill find a poode, or a mixture of one who needs a home

I dont mind paying th money (Not lik I hae it, But I would save up. Considering shelters/rescues want $300+ here for a dog, most want $450+.)a good breeder wants. My problem, is why am I going to a breeder, if I an just get a shelter/rescue dog. I wont breed or do confomation ect. either way

I can't see me ever paying $1,000 or more for a Border Collie. I would be more willing to pay that price for a trained dog, but it would depend on the dog and how much training it has.

For rescue, I can't see myself ever paying over $200-$300. It would depend on the dog.

For a Border Collie, the most I could see myself paying is $1,000. You can get a well bred working BC from health tested parents for way less than that, even.

I couldn't imagine paying more than $1200 for a Chihuahua, and that would have to be a 5-8 month old Chihuahua who shows GREAT promise in the ring.

I always dream of going the breeder route - but I don't know if it'll ever happen. Because just about the time I start looking, a rescue dog calls my name  lol

I, personally, would probably pay up to $400 rescue/rehome route. Depends on the dog/situation and medical necessary ;)

I really lucked out on my corgi pup. The breeder feels that since it is her hobby, that she should shoulder most of the costs. She's also against gouging puppy buyers...which some breeders really do.

Harper is $600.00 and she comes out of health tested Ch. lines. Her pedigree is pretty incredible all in all.

My samoyed puppy was going to be 1,500.00 and he was going to be a show puppy, much like Harper is.

Again, had I the money to spare, I would have paid that much for him. The breeder I found was pretty incredible and she came highly recommended by everyone in the sammy breed club that I talked to.

I'd pay over $1,000. Pet papillons tend to go from $1000- $1600. Show dogs go up from there. I expect to pay that much in this breed and it's well worth it imo. The other breeds I'm looking at I'd probably go the rescue route (except a couple rarer breeds). I wouldn't go over $500 for a rescue most likely.

I paid 1200 for Armani/ 1100 for Chloe... so obviously I would spend at least that.

I have been looking at Biewer breeders recently and would be willing to spend up to 2000 for one... I would like to get a young adult and the breeder I am looking at spays/neuters, all shots, etc. before they come home... plus they are housebroken and obedience trained... so really the 2000 isnt that much because you have none of the big vet expenses you usually have at the beginning and a lot of the hard work is already done.
