Since I got such a tremendous response to my thread Flirtpole, Springpole, etc - Just for Pit Bulls?, I was hoping that some of you who responded could help me out with a video project.

Objective: There are a lot of things that Pit Bull owners use/do that is viewed with suspicion among the general population. They're things that will get you branded a dog fighter in some locales. So what I would like to do is assist in the "normalizing" of these things, by putting together a series of informational videos, explaining how this stuff works, and hopefully showing how it can be of use to the average dog owner, not just dog-fighting Pit Bull owners.

Deadline: I am not going to start actually putting this all together until the weather warms up, the wind dies down, and I get more use out of my yard. (I'm going to be shooting a lot of footage myself.) So I have plenty of time at this point. I just wanted to put the call for help out there now.

Topics I'd like to cover:

Flirtpole
springpole
treadmill
breaking sticks
Rope leads & wide collars
Weight pull (or pulling drag weight for exercise)
Responsible Tethering/Chaining
possibly Crating
possibly swim tanks, if I can find enough info

What I need from you guys:

Video
Pictures
Testimonial

Video: Same as pictures, anything to do with any topic, just nothing copyrighted. If it's a YouTube video, I can use a website to copy it to my computer. I can also have files emailed to me, or you can use a file sharing service.

Pictures: Any pictures that have anything to do with any of the topics, provided they're not copyrighted. Need not be high-res, although that could help.

Testimonial: Something short and to the point, including your name/handle and what breed(s) of dog you own. Example:

"I've been using a treadmill for my dogs for a few years now. It's been a big help in keeping my dogs exercised and happy when I'm unable to get out due to bad weather or my back acting up." -- Sam Hill, Labrador owner

My email: [email protected]

For those that contribute, please remember to include your name, website, handle, or whatever you'd like credited at the end of the video. If you don't want your full name given, I can understand that, so I'd be more than happy to use your forum handle, kennel name, nickname, whatever.

I'd really like to make this a useful set of videos that people can crosspost and pass around as needed to help educate overzealous newbs whose hearts are in a righter place than their information. I'd like to get as many different "normal" breeds as possible involved in this, so people can see that it's not just weird Pit Bull people who use a flirpole, or play around with weight pull, or tether their dogs as needed. The videos will hopefully be hosted or at least featured on the APBT network, and will be out there for public use.

Thanks in advance to anyone who's able to help me out. :hail:

I use a flirtpole at FOHA sometimes. If people ask what it is, I tell them, and I explain it as a big cat toy for dogs. I haven't had anyone accuse me of training rescue dogs to fight yet. :p

There is a new hyperactive lab who I think might like my flirt pole, so I will see if he likes it, and attempt to get some pics of a lab on the pole. :)

Hehe, I can get some pics of a papillon actually on a cat toy... dunno if that counts as a flirt pole. ;)

You should cut some PVC pipe, get some rope and a small toy and make a tiny flirt pole for the paps! That would be awesome! :D

You can get materials at any home improvement store.

I've been meaning too, the boys would have a blast. The girls, though, are above such silly games. (Ro *might* play, but I'm not going to place any bets)

I might be able to use pictures of Paps with kitty toys, and just explain it's the same concept.

Sweet, any help you can give me would be awesome. If you could write a short testimonial about how you use it for the rescue dogs, I think that would help a lot. I would, of course, put a link to FOHA in the credits of the video.

I have springpole video/possibly pictures I would let you use. I also have video of my dogs in "their" pool, if you do anything w/ the swim tank idea.

I wish my dogs would use a treadmill.. lol

I have australian cattle dogs, just PM me when you are ready for the videos and stuff.

My trainer does weightpull with her Sheltie, I can see if she has any pictures and is interested in sharing...I guess it would show that these aren't just used for fighting dogs?

Yeah, that's more or less the point. To debunk some of the myths around these "fighting dog training aids." Breaking sticks for example. It was put out in an article that they're wooden daggers used to goad dogs into fighting. (I ran around poking my dog with her breaking stick and saying "fight, fight" for a while. :rofl1:) And some have said that weight pulls are just a place where dog fighters "network," and that the events are cover for dog fighting. I'd like to help dispel some of that BS.

Dogstar, thank you!

Outline, I can start collecting the videos now if you have any ready to go. If not, I can PM you closer to the time when I'm getting ready to put it all together.

I'll have to see if someone in the weight pull group I belong to doesn't have some video . . . of the tiny little Rat Terrier and the Hairless Terrier pulling :rofl1:

I would be more then willing to take a vid of Ben playing with his Christmas chicken. LOL!
It is a chicken on a elastic with a Christmas hat on. Or as he has been called lately, the Quanza chicken (too much G&T in my swimming pool resulted in renaming Christmas chicken.)

Renee, sounds good. I don't know how many all-breed pulls I'll be hitting next year, so I can use any help I can get. :)

Puppydog, Christmas chicken sounds cute.
