Domestika I think your rant was not in vain if it opens only one buyers eyes. I've been in the exact same spot you're in right now with our very first dog...naive buyer who didn't do her homework. The heartbreak taught me a good lesson but it also taught me that no matter how hard we try to find a reputable breeder some bad ones always seem to get through. Sorry for Nova also, that poor dog will be paying the price.

Domestika; I know the breeder you are posting about. Yes, she is a puppymill. A few police agencies use her dogs because she talks a good talk and when you produce as many dogs as she does; some have to turn out o.k.. The dogs I have seen of hers with the police departments (and granted that's not all) are ****; I've seen them work. She's had 1 or 2 good dogs; a couple that could have been better had she not browbeaten them into submission. A lot of her titles on her dogs aren't real either, seriously -- a lot of what she writes seems to be wishful thinking. She had parvo in her yard (which granted anyone can get; but she is a major importer/flipper of dogs). She keeps and breeds some very sketchy dogs (your Nova is now one of them). GSDs are tricky as a breed anyway; maybe try to get an adult that you know doesn't have any health issues. My trainer (who has worked with this breeder's dogs) has now put down 4 different GSDs (different lines) due to; brain tumour; spinal myelopathy, OCD/Pano/osteoporosis, epilepsy and now her puppy has one testicle. Getting a good working GSD is a long row to hoe. My friend is just happy her pup isn't lame; never mind the single testicle.

Don't feel too bad; lots of people have been caught out by her breeding tactics; we (trainer friend and I) never recommend her dogs to anyone.
Wow...I'm surprised you know her. She operates in a fairly small town, but if what you're saying is true and a lot of her titles are fake...that is pretty alarming! I certainly never thought to check the validity of the titles her dogs hold. Scary stuff.

I wonder if we really are referring to the same person. Sounds like it...I know that she uses quite a heavy hand with her dogs. When I mentioned to her that Nova was having a difficult time learning bite inhibition she told me to give her a good thump in the head. :(

Anyway, if we are thinking of the same person I'd rather if you didn't pass on what I've said to anyone who runs in the same circles as her. I've already been through all this with her and I could reaaaally do without the drama. :)
