You (general) have a complaint about something...complain to people who can DO something about it. I mean the net is FULL of people complaining...and many times they are complaints that are the sole fault of the person complaining! LOL...
The breeder and I have already been over much of this and I have let it go with her.

I wasn't trying to register a complaint. I was feeling pissy and needed to vent and did it here, where I thought someone could a) benefit from my experience and maybe b) comisserate.

Anyway, I didn't disagree with what you said. I agreed! :hail:

Here you can write and editorial to the paper under complaints in Gladstone. PEople do it all the time. I would ask Renee but i am not sure you can be sued if you tell the absolute truth and can prove it. Fighting people like this is something i would adore doing for a living. I see a puppy miller i go get my big ol sign STOP PUPPY MILLERS DONT KEEP THE SUFFERING GOING and i stand out there and tell every person that comes up WHY this is a bad thing. FReedom of speech all the way i CAN do this and Do it. I have never gone through the misery of losing a pup this way.

IT didn't happen at our kennel, ever. Like Mary longevity and good health was the standard. EVen so i am glad i am not a part of the breeding game at this stage in my life, i don't want to profit from what i hold so important in my life. BUt that is solely me and i do not hold anyone else to this. I just personally want no part of it. I will however do whatever i can to keep one more puppy from suffering.

I know what it is like to live with immune system breakdowns. IT doesn't feel good to be sick. IT's horribly expensive. A applaud you for wanting to go the greyhound adoption route. I know there are reputable breeders out there, and i believe in what they do. OUR kennel produced the number one search and seizure dog in Nebraska. THat nose was developed over a man's lifetime of very carefully breeding. SO don't get me wrong i am not dissing breeders..good breeders.

BUt my GOd what will it take to stop the bad ones if we and you who has been especially hurt by it don't stand up and say something. THey GET AWAY with it pay off their houses with it, buy their cars and clothes with it. IF you bought a lemon car their is a law. I just don't get it why these breeders sell sick puppy after sick puppy breed that often and stay in business. Other than it's caused by people tired and sick of the pain don't want to continue it, let it go, move on. BUt that doesnt' stop it their hell marches happily onward.

You have a right to rant and be disappointed . A breeder should be breeding for the sake of their breed .....not to crank out puppies for $$$ .

Wow, on top of having to return Nova, and now this? I'm sure you feel horrible! I'm so sorry. I can't imagine what your feeling right now. :( ***HUGS***
I feel bad for Nova, more than anything. Or anyone who gets one of her pups, should they have her poor health!

PS. I'm accepting dogs via post if you have one to spare.

Are you going to wait until you are settled to get a dog? YOu said overseas? I would have to go back and reread your post. I can't go anywhere because Victor could not handle it at all if i left him somewhere like qaurantine i think he would flip out.

I can loan you a little Pepper via post.

Domestika my last post wasn't directed at you...but at the folks questioning the validity of any action...sorry bout that.

Shoot one need only read that Award site for frivolous lawsuits to see how much evidence, and law actually matters in many cases...teehee.

Doesn't mean she'd win...or it'd even proceeed...the bother and expense and sheer annoyance is worth it to many people these days...sad to say!

I agree, whats wrong with venting? I see nothing wrong with it, and if it was a well know member who has been here for a long time and everyone likes that member, no one would have a problem with it.

I'll loan you little Jake Poo, he'll keep you busy :D

That's interesting, actually. It seems like someone effected by it should be the most motivated to put a stop to it, but I find myself less likely to want to get worked up about it because it brings up bad feelings for me.

Though, thankfully, I don't think my breeder was the worst of the worst at all. I know she actually cares about her dogs, I just think she makes somewhat unwise choices. And is perhaps a weeee bit motivated by the pocketbook.

There are far, far worse out there and I wish I had the strength to fight like you! I just find the whole thing so overwhelming and depressing!

I think we'll wait until we're in the UK to look at Greyhound rescues. We're in Iceland for another year or two yet, so it'll be a bit.

I don't know how dogs handle quarantine at all! It's so lonely and boring! I could see maybe an older dog that didn't have much energy and spent most of their time sleeping? But an interactive, younger dog...yikes.

Mandatory quarantine here is 30 days, which my cat did with ease, but must be doggy torture.

But if you send Pepper through the post I'm sure all that quarantine will be avoided. :D

I Think it just hurts too much and people don't like to dwell where it hurts. I can't blame them, i see it, read it, hear it all the time. I think that is in our nature and that is why this sin as i see it succeeds. THey dwell in an area most of us can abide to even look at. SO a lot of people don't see it. THat is true for most evil isn't it? People who love their dogs ought to do a march somewhere to protest puppymills and byb breeders just for the sheer education factor. I honestly believe that if people REALLY understood they would not buy a dog this way. BUt how are they ever to know if people don't say something? I would try to report to the Better B and see what happens. I have certainly reported a repair shop before. Would not hestitate to call in a business that had harmed me or my family in some way even if it is loss of income. We wont' even discuss matters of the heart.

You know what I've never understood about puppy mills and pet store puppies is...how the heck do they manage to charge so much for those dogs??

You can get a purebred dog from a reputable breeder for a lot LESS. Half-breed dogs in petstores can go for like 2000$!

I think it must be like..impulse shopping or something. People are weird.

AT the kennels we also boarded so i can say how i think they handle it. Most dogs have incredible faith. THey wait and wait and wait until it would break your heart. THey watch the driveway they run about, the eat and drink...some, most eventually, some right off the bat. WE had one that a man had cancer and had to leave his dog with us while he had treatment. THey came to see him once a week and brought him a burger. He held in in his mouth until it dissolved. All day..you would see the meat uneaten there the next day. HE held onto it as long as he could. I will never forget that. His daddy got better and he got to go home so that story has a happy ending. They wait for us.

Victor was in the basement of a vet's office as a shelter since the small town had none. WAlking into a vet's office just did something to him i can only discribe as a flash back. He was not in the same room i was in mentally and he was scared spitless. SHeter dogs make him panic and so do kennels. THis is why he will never be in one. Mary would wait...Pepper would wait, but he would lose his mind.

IT is exactly impulse buyers by uninformed people. EVEN if you stand their with this sign explaining about immune system breakdowns and constantly pregnant dogs most on wire floors that wreck their feet some grandmother with her grandaughter will STILL by the dog wave to you and say they agree with freedom of speech. NUts...i hope thier puppy didn't get sick but man was that ever sad. Some just don't care. AT least she coudlnt' say she wasn't forwarned.

I live in puppymill usa. My first experience with them was when i worked for Midwest pets. I had just gone back to work at this business a couple years after i had worked there before. This time round he had puppies. In the first 2 days they ALL came down with parvo. 50. THey were all put down and my boss said he had an order in for 50 more. 24 HOURS had not passed. He instructed his employees to go in that room that held fifty cages with poor ventilation and bleach everything. I quit. I will not be a part of this because there was no way to safely bleach this area. I was not going to watch 50 more puppies die. Every one of them should have still been with their mother's ..all blue eyed. I bad mouthed this man every chance i get. FOrtunatly i believe he is out of the picture. IF he was dead i wouldn't shed a tear. I hate the whole business of it.

Oh my goodness! That kind of faith is incredible. I often wonder if we deserve the kind of faith our dogs place in us. What's the saying "I wish to become the person my dog thinks I am"? or something similar.

I look forward to having dog buddies again in the future. :)

I think we do.. and that is why i think they love us. FOr most we take pretty darn good care of them. I read somewhere that if even 5 percent of dogs were taken out of shelters the euthanizing rate would really drop. If we could stop puppymills from dumping their dregs and mistakes into them we would stop having 70 dogs show up at one time in all stages of pregnant which is becoming a pretty darn common occurance around here. I am surprised the animal control people don't march to the sea because i don't see how they stand it. IF you added up the vet bills alone from them i think the amount would be staggering.

Smkie, that story about the hamburger has made me cry. And I'm at work! (Though I still think my Bailey boy would go willingly with anyone and would scarf up any food anyone offered! :))

Domestika, I am so sorry. I know you tried to do the right thing (and I remember your posts about deciding to return Nova), and I would be upset and, well, heartbroken, too. IMO you have every right to vent. (And, while I appreciate the advice your getting (that one doesn't need to have a lawsuit one can win (which she couldn't) to sue), she won't sue you in another country, so please don't worry about a potential lawsuit.)

Domestika; I know the breeder you are posting about. Yes, she is a puppymill. A few police agencies use her dogs because she talks a good talk and when you produce as many dogs as she does; some have to turn out o.k.. The dogs I have seen of hers with the police departments (and granted that's not all) are ****; I've seen them work. She's had 1 or 2 good dogs; a couple that could have been better had she not browbeaten them into submission. A lot of her titles on her dogs aren't real either, seriously -- a lot of what she writes seems to be wishful thinking. She had parvo in her yard (which granted anyone can get; but she is a major importer/flipper of dogs). She keeps and breeds some very sketchy dogs (your Nova is now one of them). GSDs are tricky as a breed anyway; maybe try to get an adult that you know doesn't have any health issues. My trainer (who has worked with this breeder's dogs) has now put down 4 different GSDs (different lines) due to; brain tumour; spinal myelopathy, OCD/Pano/osteoporosis, epilepsy and now her puppy has one testicle. Getting a good working GSD is a long row to hoe. My friend is just happy her pup isn't lame; never mind the single testicle.

Don't feel too bad; lots of people have been caught out by her breeding tactics; we (trainer friend and I) never recommend her dogs to anyone.

Smkie the story of the dogs waiting in the kennels made me cry too :(
I don't think there's anything wrong with venting about someone who is making terrible choices involving what used to be your dog.
