That is just awful! It is one of my nightmares, having these small dogs. I am very careful, but nevertheless, accidents can happen. My heart goes out to Jessica. She is very torn up over this, you can see. If a coyote snatched up that little dog, she doesn't have a chance in hell.....unless the coyote decided he liked her as a pal rather than food....which, incidentally does come up from time to time. I had a neighbor whose dog was pals with a coyote. And obviously, they do interbreed sometimes.

honestly im going to get hell for this but why let your dog outside if its not fenced in , then have the dog on a leash especially if you know there are coyotes by you hello i mean its just kind of common sense but if she had the dog on a leash to go potty or eaven a long flexi im sure it would have been fine.

Sisco , I'm not giving you hell . but many of us have acreage and love to see our dogs run free. It's not unlike bringing a child up in a bubble . Some of us take our chances . I never worried about my dogs , but did about my cats when enjoying walks with us with hawks overhead .

Her yard IS fenced in. the coyote got in

this is a tragedy, accidents happen and NOBODY is perfect dog owner.

I hope she finds little daisy and I hope all is well, I'll keep her in my prayers. it must be horrible to lose a pet that way

what a terrible tragedy. She really seemed to adore her dog. I hope she finds her safe...but the likley hood is slim. poor daisy.

Why not let a dog outside if its not fenced in if the dog has a good recall? I let blaze offleash lots of places none are fenced in...

I was thinking... even if a dog is leashed, that would just have a tug of war sort of effect . . . ?

:( How sad!!

Coyotes will go right over a fence when they're hungry. It's one thing to let your dog run in the yard during broad daylight, but if you've got a small dog, especially, or really any dog, between dusk and full morning it's just not smart to let them out loose in the yard.

And it needs to be a fairly short leash.

A leash is always better. Coyotes are chickenshits (there might be some sort of Schutzhund III coyotes out there but it's not the norm). Even if your dog is on an 6 ft lead it is unlikely a coyote will come that close. If it does grab your dog, you can kick the crap out of it and it will run. Again, generalization, but this is not a pit bull, it's a wild animal, it specializes in survival, which in most cases involves not getting hurt.

Without a leash, your dog doesn't stand much of a chance. Your dog is running around, the coyote is chasing it and you don't have any control of the situation.

And what Renee said.

And sorry about Jessica Simpson's dog, that's really sad.

Jessica is still trying, she has even hired doggy detectives but at this point, I don't think there is much hope
a hungry coyote vs a lil maltipoo, its a sad sad situation

She did an interview and her little pup was with her and I was surprised at how much she loved that little dog and was proud to gush about the tricks she taught her. you could really tell she loved this little dog

my heart goes out to her :( she must feel so devastated

My dogs are in a small fenced in yard and they go in at night. Any woof or growl I hear they are called in immediately. I have heard of small dogs being grabbed through a fence and legs being torn off.

Not sure if she still lives in Beverly hills...but most of CA is urban...we know coyotes are here...but often don't see them/ hear them and honestly forget they exist until som'thing like this happens, this is not an everyday thing.

What a horrible accident.
