I always thought miniature Aussies were just smaller versions of "standard" Aussies. Aka, instead of having a dog that is 50 pounds or what not you have a dog that is only 30 pounds. Still an Aussie, just smaller, thus "miniature".

But what do I know. LOL

I do think those "toy" or "teacup" Aussies are just a load of bull...the ones that look like Pom mixes? Those are what I would call a "designer" breed. There is a complete difference between dogs of that type and the ones from the breeder Laur posted.

IMHO, if you don't want a regular sized Aussie either 1) improve your odds by choosing a small puppy from small (but still within standard) parents or 2) if you really can't handle anything up to standard, don't get an Aussie! I'm not a fan of huge dogs but I'd rather take my chances than support breeders of a designer breed that's currently "in". A 20 pound Aussie isn't going to have much in common with a real Aussie, all those great traits have been sacrificed for size. You'd be better off going for a recognized breed from responsible breeders.

eta: I still haven't looked at the site Laur posted - my internet is absolutely crawling tonight. I also might be coming at this from a different viewpoint as other people because 1) I've grown up with great standard Aussies and 2) I'm a horse person and like I mentioned before, Mini Aussies have replaced the Corgi as the big horseperson dog, so I'm especially seeing them gain popularity.

The thing though... around here the minis I meet act more aussie than the standard ones. The standard ones tend to be the overdone, almost like a merle golden type dog. I have to admit, I've met more mini aussies I'd take than standard ones.

I know exactly the "type" you're talking about! In my experience dogs like that are more geared towards the show ring. Another friend of ours has a male like that - he's so sweet, but absolutely massive and scared to death of horses and cows. Came from a good breeder, but a breeder that bred just for show. So different from the more working dogs I know and have known.

Well today we got in a lovely little mini aussie in my class. Really great dog, probably the driviest aussie I've ever seen. Unfortunately the other one in the class barely looks aussie (it's a 'mini' but it's bigger than normal aussies) and then they both brought 2 more minis. One was tiny and fine boned and spastic beyond belief. The other was really laid back and just kind of blah. Aussies just seem so varied around here. I absolutely LOVE some of them, but then others just act like another breed.

I would love an American Pit Bull Terrier or mix. Doesn't have to be purebred. I had a mix when I was younger and she made me fall in love with the breed. I have tons of experience with them by working with them at the shelter and doing tons of research.. just right now isn't the right time for one.

The dog will be a rescue though. So that's the only breed I want of today. I really want to adopt this cutie who is at my shelter but it just isn't the right time right now. He is super sweet and 7 months old.

There's Neno too. He is a sweetie and also 7 months old.

Today I want Aia, a 15 week old GSD puppy at our trainer's place. They breed working Czech shepherds (black sable), but she will be more geared towards a family pet than the others. She also has a bit of an overbite because she was the last to be born (runt, born 4 hours after the rest, had to be resuscitated, etc) so they are taking quite a bit off of her price.

Spent some time with her last weekend and she is sooo sweet. We both want her but are still unsure if we are ready for a second puppy lol. Riley loved her though :)

Today I want a Husky. Holly's breeder asked for a testimonial, and pictures of Holly for her website, and I went through some old pictures of her....I miss her so much. I want a Husky very, very badly today. <3
