We are having a lull between our first little spurt of rain and the first true band to roll through, so I thought I'd log on for a quick update as who knows who long it will be before I'm able to log on again.
The new 10 pm forecast has the first bands already moving over the coastal parishes of SE LA and will be at us shortly (so I'm typing fast!). The eye of the storm is projected to make landfall at approx. 10 am Monday morning.
Originally we were to see sustained winds of 75-85 mph, but that has been upgraded to sustained winds of 90-100 mph. We can expect gusts of 110 mph and higher.
This royally sucks.
As I said on another forum, tempers are short and liquor is scarce (non-existent know). Everyone is on edge.
The house is completely boarded up except for the doors and we've got sandbags around the place. It's deathly quiet outside with no birds, no frogs, no nothing making noise except for the occasional rumble of thunder. Well, I take that back....the winds are now picking up and I hear the house creak a bit now and then.
Everyone is asleep except me. I can't sleep. I'm worried about my kids. I'm worried about my dogs. I'm worried about my horses. And I'm worried about everyone else.
As we're under a voluntary evac where I live, I've had a few people ask me why we didn't leave. Well, with 6 dogs and 3 horses, we had nowhere to go...especially with the horses and "pit bulls." Some hotels won't even let them on the premises, much less actually inside the hotel itself.
So with no tree anymore, we decided to board up and ride it out. Now all we can do is wait. I just wish it would hit already. This waiting is horrid.
