My prayers are going out to all in the effected areas that everyone comes through this safely.

I saw on the morning news that people are starting to arrive in Nashville for shelter.

MSN is saying that it has sped up, and will be making landfall possibly by Monday morning!

Please stay safe and get out asap everyone!

We are having a lull between our first little spurt of rain and the first true band to roll through, so I thought I'd log on for a quick update as who knows who long it will be before I'm able to log on again.

The new 10 pm forecast has the first bands already moving over the coastal parishes of SE LA and will be at us shortly (so I'm typing fast!). The eye of the storm is projected to make landfall at approx. 10 am Monday morning.

Originally we were to see sustained winds of 75-85 mph, but that has been upgraded to sustained winds of 90-100 mph. We can expect gusts of 110 mph and higher.

This royally sucks.

As I said on another forum, tempers are short and liquor is scarce (non-existent know). Everyone is on edge.

The house is completely boarded up except for the doors and we've got sandbags around the place. It's deathly quiet outside with no birds, no frogs, no nothing making noise except for the occasional rumble of thunder. Well, I take that back....the winds are now picking up and I hear the house creak a bit now and then.

Everyone is asleep except me. I can't sleep. I'm worried about my kids. I'm worried about my dogs. I'm worried about my horses. And I'm worried about everyone else.

As we're under a voluntary evac where I live, I've had a few people ask me why we didn't leave. Well, with 6 dogs and 3 horses, we had nowhere to go...especially with the horses and "pit bulls." Some hotels won't even let them on the premises, much less actually inside the hotel itself.

So with no tree anymore, we decided to board up and ride it out. Now all we can do is wait. I just wish it would hit already. This waiting is horrid.

I don't exactly have anywhere to go. I'm in a brick building with plenty of water and nonperishables. But yeah, I mean this isn't really my first rodeo either. I pretty much grew up where every year there was at least one hurricane, big or small.

I'm just waiting for Louie to come on with some puns about her coming to America. ;)
I would do, but it seems in bad taste..

I get knocked over by hurricane Gustav quite regularly, especially when on rollerblades..

Hope all you guys have successfully battened down the hatches and are staying safe!

I'm back. Finally. :)

Well, Gustav has come & gone and left my house in a freakin' mess. My roof is nothing but plywood and some tarpaper with the random shingle left her and there. My fireplace has been pulled away from my house. It freakin' rains in my fireplace. I've got enough leaks coming through on my ceiling all around the house that I'm beginning to get curious what kind of design I'd get by connecting all the dots.

Our back fence never stood a chance and it was blown down. A next-door neighbor's tree was uprooted and took out part of the side fence. So I've got some unhappy dogs on my hands as they must be leash walked in the yard right now.

Our house is a combo of brick & vinyl siding, & in place the siding is now wavy. A corner piece blew off and of course it rained all in between the siding & the innards of the home.......which mold just LOVES.

So now we're waiting on our HO insurance adjuster to call us back, but I've left 4 messages since Monday & haven't heard a thing. Just dandy for the rain we're expected to get from some of the outermost bands of Ike. (we're already getting some nice breezes/gusts)

Oh, & we didn't have electricity for 8 days and our generator broke down thanks to some really bad gas that junked up the carberator.

Anyways, I'm here. :D

Thank goodness you are all ok, health-wise. Sorry to hear about the house. I hope you can get it repaired quickly. Good to see you back on chaz.
