Agreed, the thread started as a flame war and after 75 posts has turned into a pitbull debate. Out of all the posts I've read about 5 of them were helpful.
Much thanks to those who provided information about Filas, I'm looking into buying one from Lone Wolf Filas if anyone knows anything about them. I'll post some pictures when the dog comes in the mail, or however dogs are shipped.
I really apologize this topic has gotten so far off track from Filas. What I do hope you will understand is I am in no way wanting to flame you....but, I want to point out a couple of things for you to think about, or clarify.
Btw-dogs don't come in the mail...but cute answer
I read where you are only 18...I will say, when I was 18, I was not ready for a Fila, however this isn't about me, it is about you. You may have been around many more dogs than I was at the age of 18. Rd is young also, and I feel she would be an excellent Fila owner...so I'm not going to base this on age only, but actual owner experience. One question I have is where is the dog going to be kept? A Fila is a velcro dog and I do mean velcro dog...they are not happy without you. You will not be able to throw this dog in the yard and expect it to thrive...It needs to be inside with you. It will want to go everywhere with you...
Do you have a lot of friends that come over? Filas are not known to love everybody, and they don't. It will require a lot of socialization and training.
When it comes to training a Fila, they are very smart, but can be hard headed at times...You have to outsmart you fila...These dogs do not respond to a heavy hand, a soft but firm attitude from you will get the results you want...Don't try to teach your dog to be mean. This will be the worse mistake you could ever make. Fila's are not mean dogs, that are protective and loving dogs.
They don't like to fight other animals, they are quite docile with animals.
Make sure you make weekly visits to your vet for social visits, weigh ins, etc... You don't want to have your dog muzzled every time you have a vet visit.
If you have any questions...and trust me, once you get your puppy you will( these are not your typical canines) we are here to help you. Looking forward to pictures of your new baby.
