I know in danes, there are a nice amount that have a hard time keeping weight with TOTW. Good food, good ingredients but some dogs just cant seem to keep weight on it

Hm...any food recommendations that have higher calorie content so I can feed less? Or would it be better just to go raw when I can?

I wish I could figure out a way to get rid of Summer's tear staining. I was hoping raw would be the trick but it hasn't helped at all. She was fine a few years ago and now I can't get it to go away.

We found with big eyed toy dogs (when we had chihuahua and yorkie fosters) it was inevitable at a certain point. Diet helped but never cured. Shamoo doesn't seem to have stains on any other foods though so I do say food helps.

I may be stretching but I think Stephanie's dogs are. Gary has to actually regulate Qs food so he doesn't get fat. It's so weird.
It is weird! She was a chunky pup then went through a phase as an older pup on kibble where she was skin and bones but would get diarrhea if I upped her food. Now I've recently been getting some chub off of her, lol! I'm swimming her everyday on top of agility training and I feel bad feeding her any less but she's almost where I want her.

Yes, I've fed raw for 7 years. :) If I fed strictly prey model bought in bulk, raw would be cheaper for me than kibble. BUT, my dogs collectively eat 2 lbs per day. And I can get raw for $0.50/lb, so it's around $1 per day. I feed a lot of free range meats, some pre-made, and some obscure expensive meats, and a few supplements just because I want to. So it's not that cheap, about the same as kibble, but the results make it more than worthwhile!

TOTW didn't keep weight on my dogs when I tried feeding it, and my dogs pooped twice as much. I'm guessing it's because it is very potato filled. I much prefer Nature's Variety Instinct.

The kibble portion of my dog's diet is Native Performance. They have slightly different formulas for different activity levels. When we are scootering a lot (3-4x/week) I use the level 3 and when we are scootering less (2-3x/week) I use the level 2. It's a fairly reasonable price and I don't go through it that fast (but I am feeding about half raw as well).

I wish I could figure out a way to get rid of Summer's tear staining. I was hoping raw would be the trick but it hasn't helped at all. She was fine a few years ago and now I can't get it to go away.
To some extent the anatomy of the face/skull in a lot of toy breeds contributes enough that you may not be able to overcome it completely. It makes the path of least resistance for tears to drain out of the eyes onto their face rather than through their normal internal drainage system.

It is just so strange to me that it wasn't always this bad. When I first got her, it was bad. Changed her to a good food (EVO) and it went away almost completely for a couple years. Then it's just gotten progressively worse. 2.5 years ago she had little to no problems:

I've really tried changing diet around and no avail. I really am stumped and would love for her to go back to being as free of staining as she was before.

how old was she when it started?
It's been about 2 years, so around 6 or so when she first started having major problems. Looking back at pics when I first got Mia, she was fine. For a while I thought it was allergies from moving a couple times but she's lived here before and been fine.

end of 2010 it started up a little bit.

She is missing a chunk of her left eyelid, which you can see here. Surgery was done when Mia was around 1 year ago, so about 2 years ago.

Canine Caviar, Natures Logic, and Natures Variety Instinct are all very high quality, high calorie foods - between 500 and 600 calories per cup.

I feed half kibble, half canned in the morning, and half kibble, half raw in the evenings. I use premade raw since I can get it cheap/free from work - usually Natures Variety, Bravo, or Stella & Chewys. They also get RMBs occasionally as a meal replacement.

I feed raw here as well. Well the dogs get raw, trying to convince the daughter to switch her cat over to raw.

I feed RAW and kibble. For kibble they get EVO, Acana/Orijen, and Horizon Legacy. I switch it up with the kibbles.

Judge eats 2 lbs. Of RAW a day. Then on Kibblle days he gets 4 cups.

LoLa gets 1 lb. Of RAW or 2 cups kibble.

Hobie gets 1 lb of RAW or 1 1/2 cups of kibble.

Question, why do some of you call it RAW in all caps?

Whenever I read it like that I imagine it like you are talking all normal and then roaring RAW!!! and then continuing in a normal tone.
