What should I feed Chloe? I'd *like* to be able to get food at petsmart, but there is a small-chain pet products store very close by that we can go to as well.

I've been considering "Innova EVO red meat", but am open to any suggestion. I'm not incredibly educated on the best dog foods, I just look for meat as the first ingredient, and no grain. I've also looked at Orijen and Wellness.

I'd like to be as economical as possible, but I also want her to have a good food.

For those who don't know, she's a dachshund/chihuahua mix, if that makes any difference to what kind of food she should have. I don't need an athlete, I just want her to be healthy. :)

Wellness CORE is really good, if they sell it at your Petsmart. The one that I work at doesn't carry CORE... bleh! D:<

My fave kibble at Petsmart (besides CORE) is Blue Buffalo Wilderness Salmon. It's in a shiney red bag with a wolf. I know many dogs on this kibble, and all of them look beautiful and have amazing coats. The duck formula (green bag) is great too. I would rotate between those two if I got kibble from Petsmart. It wouldn't be at all expensive to feed to a Chiweenie. You only need to feed her very, very little.... like 1/2 cup a day if that.

Awesome, thank you!!!! I will see if I can find Wellness CORE, and if not, I will look for the two Blue Buffalo varieties mentioned!

Taste of the Wild is a good grain-free food that's pretty cheap, at least when compared to other grain-free foods. They don't sell it at Petsmart but maybe your other pet store will, and they do sell it at Tractor Supply if you have one nearby.

I got wellness small breed at petsmart. I forgot what kind of wellness I was supposed to look for, but I don't think I saw CORE. I did see the wilderness duck and salmon formulas and I had the salmon formula in the basket, was going to check out, and switched to wellness at the last minute because it was $15 for 4lbs and the wilderness was $30 for 11lbs (which is cheaper, but I didn't have $30 on me). I'm going to go with wilderness in the end I think though, I just didn't have the money on me at the moment. Over all I think wilderness is going to be a better option. She doesn't seem too interested in the wellness either which is disappointing.

Orijen and Acana are "my" all time favorite kibbles, I think, right now.

But I would not be opposed to feeding Wellness at all (CORE, preferably).

I also like Nature's Variety Instinct, Fromm, Taste of the Wild, Go! Endurance.

I rotate Jackson's food often... he does best on high protein/low carb kibbles. Orijen Regional Red is probably his favorite and what he does best on. Acana Grasslands is his second favorite. Those are the main ones we rotate with, and then I buy lots of different canned food to mix in with the dry... he gets a new canned food every week.

I'll go with the desert at the end but I think I have no money on me yet. Overall I think the desert would be a better solution. It does not seem too interested in the welfare of whether it is disappointing...........

So, on the food we were feeding, both dogs had some minor dry skin issues, and some problems with eye boogers (chloe's NEVER had that issue before now, and i don't know about violet since we've fed it to her since we got her). So we're going to switch over to TOTW. I hope we have good results with it! I'm excited about switching over to completely grain-free.

I'm reading a bit about a RAW diet though, and might make a thread about it later.

I feed my adults Acana Sport and Agility, and the puppy gets Nature's Variety Lamb & Rice.

I tried EVO RM on and off for years.. Never had a dog do well on it. Was always too rich for them, took a long time to get solid stools and even then they were pretty mushy (and ROTTEN smelling). My female could never hold it in at night on EVO RM, and all of my dogs would get bald around the eyes. So I won't be trying it again.

Not to off shoot, but how do you like that food? I looked into that for awhile and while Traveler is on raw it's still a food I've considered for training and the other dogs but was told they don't sell it in the US yet.

I've been feeding it for almost two years now and my dogs have always seemed to enjoy it and do well on it. They always have good pigment, don't seem really itchy, and their skin is in really good shape. Plus it helps keep the weight on which is the main reason I started feeding it. It seems expensive but the price is better than alot of the other high quality foods. I definatly recommend it for active dogs.
