We're on the same page, I have those exact sites up on my browser right now! lol...

He's on a huge life of vitamins/supplements, PM me if you want the details...

I'm not really sure if our vet will go for the Ivermectin... but I'm printing out of all this stuff and I think I'm going to go to her with it..

Showpug- thank you for your kind words. We did the mitaban dips before and I felt they were too harsh... I have heard good things about the ivermectin and I am willing to try it for Buddy's sake. :)
If your vet wont go for it, you may want to consider finding a vet who will and use that vet at least temporarily. Around here, it's common practice to treat demodex with ivermectin. Vets wont use mitaban anymore because it's far worse than the ivermectin!

Good luck with whatever you choose. I know you will do what is best for your boy. :)

We have an appointment in a couple hours.. I have some print outs about using ivermectin in treating mites. I will NOT do the mitaban dips again. If they refuse, I will find another vet-simple as that.

BP, also ask your vet about using Benadryl for the itchyness. My GSD, Shannon, was taking it, and it helped, prescribed by her vet and the dosage was prescribed by her weight. Good luck, will be looking for an update. You and Buddy are in my thoughts and prayers. All fingers and paws here are crossed for you and Buddy along with many {{{HUGS}}}

Edited to add: also ask about an antibiotic if there's a secondary infection?

I get the same reactions from people in my family.

I have one rescue Chow, who was severely abused, and was a little nippy at first. It had wire imbedded into it's leg, that wrapped around it in a junky yard.
He was HELL to live with at first, but day by day he broke out of his shell. And he is now an amazing dog.
But I constantly get "how do you trust that thing?" or "why did you waste your time when you know he will probably just become aggressive again?".

Some people just do not understand what can actually be done for an animal in need, no matter the circumstances.

You may see it as a non-negotiable duty and contract out of love, but Buddy really is one of the luckiest dogs on Earth to end up with you and Demit.

I hope the vet will go for the Ivermectin treatments and I hope to high heaven they work! Poor Buddy deserves a break!

*sniff* That's touching. Yes, and it is a responsibility. Another thing....our dogs wouldn't dump us if we were sick or worse. Look what some dogs put up with and they still are loyal to the end. We can learn from them and the deserve the same that they give us.

I completely agree Nicole. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Though, sadly, not everyone has the sense of caring, responsibility, and love for their pets as you do. I wish everyone did but they don't.
I am so glad that you have Buddy and that Buddy has you (and Mit of course). :)

i hear you loud and clear!! unfortunately too many people are willing to dump their dogs instead of exert a little bit of effort.

i was helping a friend of mine look for a dog a year or so ago, and at one point she made the comment "if it doesn't work out, i'll just take him back". um, no. that's not how it works. (happily she made a great choice of dog and is now head over heels in love with the dog and at least sort of "gets it")

I couldn't agree more. I had very mixed reactions after Zippy had his surgery--some people understood, many including one of my best friends says she is glad Zippy is ok, but she would have never spent THAT on a dog...Nothing in the world is more valuable to me than how much I love it when Zippy curls up behind me while I'm laying on the couch and rests his head on my neck or climbs under the covers and plasters himself to the crook of my arm...how do you put a price that?
Hope Buddy is feeling better soon!
