Your thoughts?

I'm personally of the mindset that if the sherriff is going to go after him based on a picture, then Law Enforcement all over the country is going to need extra help, because there are TONS of pictures on the internet of people smoking pot, bragging about their drug deals, and breaking other laws.. etc.

I think they're just going after him because of who he is.

I don't advocate his drug use by any means, I'm just not sure I agree with the hoopla.

Of course they are. I think it's a colossal waste of taxpayer money...for all the reasons you state. He is a Olympic winning athlete but he is also a young man and if you do not arrest every young man posted on the net smoking it out...then you are profiling...plain and simple. Profiling isn't just about race...they do profile celebs.

Many football players will say they are followed often by Police in their area simply because of who they are...every cop wants to be the one that busts "the big name". Wonder how many people are mugged while they tail Joe Linebacker as he hits up Subway and then heads over to the Country Club for golf?

The jails are filled with pot smokers, while rapists, sex offenders, murders and the like roam free... The US justice system at its best!

I think the pot laws are stupid in the first place and I'm not even interested in smoking it...have never even tried it....just not curious I guess. But to see the punishment they dole out for crimes involving pot just blows me away. In many cases, the jail sentences are much more severe than horrific crimes against other living beings. Child molestation (molesters get to live in our neighborhoods and are provided housing, I think) Rapists get a few years. Michael Vic got less than 2 years. Assault: You can beat the crap out of someone and get very little or drive drunk and kill someone and get less than some of the pot growers or possessers get. It's so skewed that yeah....it shouldn't even be a law.

I agree....wasting tax payer money and profiling...spying, following, picking on people for minor things when they should be out there fighting real crime. They work for us! But have gotten way too powerful so that citizens have to walk on egg shells out of fear. That's not right. This is becoming like a police state.

Yeah, the justice system is completely wacked out.

Nearby, we just had two murder suspects (murdered a female college student) released on 50,000 bond but someone else is being held for 200,000 bond for possessing lortabs without a prescription. What's wrong with that picture?

It's nice to live in Canada where pot smoking is a misdemeanor. Trafficking isn't but possession is.

Ticketing
Anyone found in possession of 15 grams or less of marijuana -- about 15 to 20 joints -- will be given a fine instead of criminal prosecution. Youths could face fines of up to $100 for possession, while adults could be fined up to $150.

Possession of one gram or less of cannabis resin would be punishable by a fine of $300 for an adult and $200 for a youth.

The fines for up to 15 grams of marijuana or one gram of cannabis resin are increased to $250 for youth and $400 for adults in cases where "aggravating factors" exist. Those include possession while driving or while on school property.

Those found in possession of between 15 and 30 grams of pot would either be issued a ticket or summons to appear in court. That decision would be up to the police officer. A ticket fine would be $300 for an adult and $200 for a youth. A conviction in court could result in fines of up to $1,000 or six-months jail time, depending on the offence.

I can't believe this is even news. and I don't really care. I think the Sheriff likes the publicity. Let it go, they have a picture, catch him with a trunk full of drugs selling it to kids at autograph signings then bust him, until then??? Why is it even against the law. I think the movie was called "Grass" and narrated by Woody Harrelson and it goes into how Pot became illegal. It was pretty funny and intersting at the same time.

And no, I don't smoke it, it isn't for me

I think it's ridiculous. Apparently our law enforcement doesn't have enough to do to fill their days.

When it first happened everyone was going off about how this was going to ruin his chances to be in the next olympics and he was never going to be welcome in another olympics ever again... I believe they said "His olympic dreams may be OVER" Talk about over dramatic

If he passes the drug tests during the olympics or any qualifying drug tests then LEAVE HIM ALONE. this shouldn't affect him in the olympics at all.

If they aren't hurting anyone... LEAVE THEM ALONE.
