Mia does not bath zoomie either. She just curls in a ball and shakes post bath. Which makes her dry very slowly.
Both my little one just curl up after a bath lol.
I would have preferred curling up in a ball! She kept leaning on me and touching me with her gross wet-dogness.
I discovered that she really enjoyed being brushed right after though, so maybe that was it.

Sitting here wanting this gorgeous braided leash, wanting to splurge all my money, so badly, but wondering if she'll somehow snap it going for a squirrel, and if I should drop down to biothane...oooh but this leash is gorgeous.

Also, Neeners gets a chunk of chicken for being a good girl and pointing out the sixth spider that's appeared in the exact same spot of my ceiling in the middle of the night this week.

Mia is adding to the dead rodent body count today. Yuck. Luckily the repairman was kind enough to remove the dead body for me. God I hate mice.

I am so happy.

I came home to visit my parents, and unwittingly discovered a perfect training situation for Leo. Some family friends are also staying over for a few days, including two 5 year olds, and a 6 year old.

Leo is a little scared of them, but they are also a little scared of him, which has created the perfect situation. They do not want to get to close to him, but are happy to throw treats/his frisbee from a distance, if and only if I am also there with them. So, we have a situation where Leo is constantly having positive interactions with children he is afraid of. I also do not have to worry about them acting inappropriately, because they WILL NOT interact with him unless I am there.

They stay out of his way, walk slowly, speak quietly, but then every once in a while they will throw toys or treats! The transformation is amazing. In the past few hours, I have seen him visibly relax...from growling in the very beginning, to quietly skulking out of the way, to ears up and relaxed body posture while they are in the backyard with him (and with me).

I did not even know they would be in the house when I came to visit, but it has turned into the perfect situation. They are absolutely the perfect kids for the job of desentitizing Leo to kids :D

That's awesome. :)

I love that I can trust my dog as much as I do. I brought Cohen with me to register to vote yesterday. Polling stations are often in schools, and this particular school had some sort of event for the kids happening too. I left Cohen tied up to a tree outside. When I came out 5 minutes later she was being fawned over by half a dozen ~7 year old girls who were excited to tell me that Cohen had licked them when they said hello.

I left Megatron at home because I had an inkling that there'd be people interested in dogs at the polling station. I'm glad I did because she wouldn't have handled it well. It just further hammers home how much I love my stupid big(ish)dog.

I'm starting to suspect that Quiddich might be....smart. he was such a doofus the first time I had him that ipretty much focused on the basics and wrote him off as loveable but dumb.

Tonight he learned to put his front paws on something, sit ina chair and then climb onto and sit on a barstool not much larger then his own butt in a short amount of time. He picked it up faster then either of my other boys.

Of course, the fact that he would crawl over broken glass for a moldy cheerio doesn't hurt either. :lol-sign:

I've decided to go get my CDL. Now I'm just trying to decide whether I should stick to a JRT for my next dog, or get a Boxer.

I love JRTs, but I don't think being in a truck would be a good fit.

If Boxers are enough like Roxie (who is half Boxer), I may just get one. I want a dog who's super duper friendly with the average joe (which is what I mean by "enough like Roxie". Maybe less OMG NEW PEEPS TO LICK! WHOO!!, though lol), but can make me feel secure when I'm out at midnight. I mean, I want a dog who's a little more "dog" than Roxie. Like... a dog who has a bit more bravado than Roxie, lol.

Really, just being alert about problems without doing anything more than standing their ground/not backing down is enough. I want a dog that gives me the opportunity to get away from a problem (or keeps me confident enough to handle it), so being alert to suss people/activity is perfect.

I've also been thinking Rottie, or English Mastiff. An EM may be too big for me though. And I'm not quite sure I really want a Rottie.

Decisions decisions... Good thing this won't be happening for a while, lol. Especially since I would like to get nextdog from a shelter.

Apparently, there's this instagrammer who is saying BS about APBTs. This person also followed numerous Pit Bull owners.

What do you mean being in a truck? I can't see a boxer being much different than a JRT in energy needs. Most boxers I know are very high, higher than most JRTs that I meet.

I just want to say that Walsh LIVED for our road trips. Seriously. Also, he demanded(yes, demanded) to sleep in his crate during travel and didn't make a peep unless he saw something/someone he disagreed with. He also waited very patiently for his leash to be put on no matter how long he'd been crated. And his pocket size made him the perfect travel companion. I miss our travels... And how stupidly happy he got on them. :(

Terrified about my seminar tomorrow. I'm going to show up and Payton is going to be rotten and Stuart Mah is going to tell me "You're a horrible trainer and your dog is awful and I can't help you. Have you thought about getting a dog that's not so psychotic?"

ohgod.

Well, my purpose in getting a JRT would be to do sports/hunting with it. Like every day, being outside being active. Whereas getting a Boxer would be more along the lines of being a traveling companion to watch my back and help me feel secure. They are more suited to that than a JRT would be.

I am aware of the energy needs of both breeds, but when I'm starting out, I think I'd be better off with a Boxer. I will probably add a JRT a few years down the line though because I have serious JRT wants, lol. I've wanted both breeds for a VERY long time anyways (I actually went searching shelters for either a Greyhound/Whippet, Boxer, or JRT. Ended up with Roxie). It's just a matter of WHEN.

That's why, basically. I know JRTs that are great truck dogs, but I don't want one for a truck dog.

I took Juno to a pet expo today and she did faaaantastic. My Nervous Nellie who, a year or so ago, could hardly even go into a pet store without panicking. She's come so far. <3 I won't lie and say she was 100% comfortable and loving the situation, I know it's overwhelming, but she was happy to let others give her attention and she did great walking through the crowd of people/dogs. She was taking treats and listening to commands which is usually the first thing to fall apart when we're approaching threshold.

She's the bestest.

Why yes Summer, dig up that chicken wing you had buried this morning then bring it in and bury it in my clean laundry pile.

I guess that's a sign to put my laundry up when I get it out of the dryer. :/
