OMG. Longest night everrrrrrr...

Around 11pm-12 midnight, he threw up, the stench is incredible. Then the diarrhea started leaking out again - Jeff said, he's got fluids in him now so it all started again. Well, at 2am, we got up and checked as his bag would have run out of fluids, but he tore the IV out (again - Jeff had to restart it once, thank God he's a paramedic and can do that stuff here) so that was that.

This AM he was barking to be let out, I think. Jeff said he pee'ed for almost 5 min. straight!

I'm going to ask the vet to specifically test for SIBO and EPI today. Apparently there's a specific test to see if it's EPI.
All the signs really do seem to fit.

I feel bad to say I don't check him when he goes poo, I mean, I didn't think I had a reason to watch, I noticed once a while back he was having a loose stool and that was about it, I remember thinking it may be dietary...

Anyway, the reason he went to the vet a few weeks ago was he developed demodex mange on his muzzle, well, we didn't know what it was, and he had two bare spots, just bald spots on his muzzle, so got him in to see if it's that disease Sheps get, and turns out the vet did a scrape and found mites.
So he's on Goodwinol for that although his not feeling well took precedence, and on the days he didn't eat or whatever, felt "down", we didn't even apply it.
I mean, in retrospect, the demodex is the least of his issues...

So it's off to the vet here in about 10 min. after I try to comb my hair into some semblence of order, grab a cup of coffee and put on some clothes - I just woke up!

Well to update; the x-rays were all normal, and I brought him home this evening.
He is holding down fluids so we didn't get an IV going, but he's really anxious and upset I won't let him gorge himself on water.
He refused food (had a can of i/d hanging around so thought I'd try that) and so I had to just shove a Flagyl/metronidazole down him.
She took blood for testing for the cTLI and cobalamine/folate deficiency to see if it's truly EPI.
We're treating him as if it is, combined with SIBO for the time being. That's what the flagyl is for...
So...I guess we'll see...

Thank you - yes we hope so too. He's very mopey today but I think he's just totally exhausted.
He's drinking water good and went pee so that's good too, not throwing up (whew) or diarrhea so far.
He's just really wiped out and I'm so sad seeing him so out of it :(

He's not bad - he's still got no appetite, I forced a spoonful of the i/d down him along with his Flagyl pill.
I guess this is not something that'd going to be fixed any time soon.
I found some old ULTRASE pills I had laying around and stuck that in a bowl with about 3/4 c. of food (less than half what he normally eats) and started it soaking. I guess we'll see if it helps or not.

Do you have any type of probiotics for him? I know flagyl can wreak havoc on digestion (from personal experience) and yogurt or something similar will help him adjust more quickly to all of his gut flora being killed off.

Luke is UP AND EATING!!!!!
And wagging his tail...ate 2-3 tsp. of i/d this AM!!!!
The 80 mile roundtrip to get the tylosin was worth it I believe...!!!

**he had really gone downhill since Thursday and I went yesterday to pick up some Tylosin as a last ditch effort to pull him out of it...the flagyl (although recommended for SIBO) was not working and all the website agreed that Tylosin is recommended highly for SIBO, even more than the flagyl, and that it can be given for the dog's entire life; anyway I couldn't find it locally except for very expensive so driving down there I got a huge bottle for half of what I'd have paid for the smaller bottle.
The only drawback is, he's really complaining about the injection - which, two days ago, he would not have done, so complaining is a good thing - but I want to find the powder ASAP so we can give it in oral form.

Anyway - either way I am ecstatic that it appears now he's going to make it!!

Thanks, got home from church a bit ago and Luke went outside, trotted around, tried to chase the cat, and lifted his leg to pee.
He's had another 1/4 c. mush with turkey in it (he likes the canned turkey). He ate it good.
Now he's barking because I have him in a pen next to the door where he usually sleeps - so the other dogs can't get to him to harass him. He wants OUT of it!
I'd say he's going to make it...!

This is the best news ever. I'm so happy he's back on the right track to feeling healthy again.
