SHORT ONLINE SURVEY ABOUT DOG WELFARE AND KENNEL FACILITIES

My name is Mia Cobb and I am currently conducting an online survey as part of my PhD research at Monash University in Australia.

People aged 18 and over can complete a short and anonymous online questionnaire. The questionnaire takes around 10 minutes to complete and asks questions about your attitudes towards the welfare of dogs and kennel facilities, as well as a few general questions about yourself.

This questionnaire is not restricted to Australian participants and you do not need to have had direct experience with a kennel facility to take part.

Public opinion is often a driving force in the provision of care for animals housed in captivity. Therefore, a survey is important to accurately establish the views of the general public as well as dog trainers and primary care givers (such as kennel attendant staff) who are generally directly responsible for decisions regarding the care provided to dogs housed in kennel facilities.

Please follow this link to read the ‘Participant Information Explanatory Statement’ in full and to commence the survey:

Please forward this invitation to any colleagues, friends, family or other contacts who may also be interested in participating.

Thanks for your time.

Great!

Many thanks for doing the survey and for your comments!

Unfortunately I can't amend the survey now that is is live, so please select the education level that best describes what you have obtained (or select other and then describe it in the open box) - thanks!

:)

Thanks!

Tell your friends! If you'd like a PDF version of the invitation to participate to easily email to your contacts, just email me at [email protected].

Cheers!

I found the question about lavender scent interesting ..... any input ?

i found some of the questions downright silly and a little frightening. simply put a dog that can't handle the stress of traditional kenneling isn't mentally stable enough for dangerous work like patrol dog or bomb dog. i don't at all approve of coddling working dogs as it weakens them individually & the breed in the long run.

1. Patrol dogs aren't the only dogs that are kenneled for training, and the survey didn't specify patrol dogs.

2. "The stress of kenneling" is very different than the work the dogs are being trained to do. In a kennel, the dogs have nothing to stimulate themselves except four blank walls, how does that help them with their job?

Hi - thanks for doing the survey! I'd be very happy to email you further information about why lavender featured in the survey (I'd rather not post it here as I don't want to influence other people's results).

Email me directly at: [email protected]

Cheers!

Thanks to everyone for doing the survey and for your comments.

There are not 'right' or ;wrong' answers - this survey is measuring attitudes and perceptions rather than testing your knowledge.

Thanks again!

I filled it out but some of the questions were hard to answer. It was hard to tell if you are asking if we think it is that way or should be that way.

Example.... Dogs welfare is important to people who run the facilities.

Well of course it should be but if you go to some kennels it clearly isn't.

I hope I helped....
