Pretty much anywhere with all the dogs except Solo. For some reason Solo likes to pee on duck feather filled duvets. As all 3 beds in the house have such items, not bedroom time for Solo. (I even tried taking him to bed one night, figuring he wouldn't pee on it when I am under it.... oh no he peed on it.. right near my shoulder too...)

Curious... why all the 'no bathroom' rules? I can understand no kitchen etc, but what do dogs do in bathrooms that's so bad. (when I have a shower I put my folded towel on the toilet seat and Dekka keeps it warm.)

The reason they're not allowed in our bathroom is because that's where we keep their dog food during the day. We freeze their raw in containers good for one day, so the night before we take it out and put it in the bathroom until we're ready for it the next day, so there's almost always a thing of their raw in the bathroom, so that's why they're kept out.

The dogs aren't allowed in the spare bedroom/tack room (LOL, barn isn't heated so I keep all my good tack in the house) as that's where the litter box and cat food is. We just lean a baby gate against the door frame with enough room for the cat to sneak it.

Other than that they have free roam.

Full roam except unattended in my bedroom because Mushroom can't stay out of the cat boxes. Well, Luce has access to that room because she can fit through the cat door in the babygate and Luce doesn't believe that rules apply to her, too, but she doesn't get herself in trouble, so I don't care.

Everywhere but my moms bedroom, and the kitchen when we're cooking.

They're all slightly afraid of the bathroom because that's where baths and nail clipping gets done :p so they stay out of there on principle. Like one of us might see them in there and go "Oh yeah! I need to clip your nails, come here!" :p

Boo has no physical barriers, but she has been trained not to go upstairs. That being said, during storms and other scary loud times, we give her a reprieve.

They're not allowed in the basement unattended because that's the cat's space. Baby gate at the top of the stairs prevents access on most days. Bailey can fit through and does on occasion, though rarely without the reason of finding a person who disappeared downstairs. Cats are allowed everywhere.

The whippets fear the bathroom for the same reason.. its 'the torture chamber' :rofl1:

But Dekka's greatest fear is being more than a few feet from me. So even though I have been known to scoop her into the shower whilst I am showering to clean her, she still comes into the bathroom to sleep on my towel... But then this is the dog who HATES vehicle rides, but will shoot out the door if she thinks I am leaving, refuse to come in and hide under the vehicle till the door opens and then dash inside to hide in the back seat...

Our second floor aka the Kingdom of the Cats is generally dog-free.

The two exceptions are 1. Pip can be upstairs with me when I'm getting ready for work in the mornings, because he's the most polite to the cats 2. The dogs sleep in the bedroom with us at night (which is on the 2nd floor).

Bailey can, and does, go everywhere. He has sleeping spots in at least one place in almost every room, too.

Well, Luce has access to that room because she can fit through the cat door in the babygate and Luce doesn't believe that rules apply to her, too....
This made me laugh.

He's allowed everywhere, but I will say, I was surprised when I moved into my new photography studio this month that when he comes here while I work he doesn't jump up on the furniture like he does at home. This really surprised me since he's allowed on eeeeverything at home. I'm glad he knew better!

Sam can go everywhere downstairs (living room, great room, kitchen, dining room) except the powder room. And upstairs he can go on my room, the office and the bathroom (so no laundry room, brother's room, or master bedroom) He stays out of the bathroom though because he's scared of it.

You mean in my <400 square foot apartment??

He's allowed where ever, but we close the bedroom doors if we go out. So if we're home, no limits, if not, everywhere except bedrooms. Why do so many of you not allow your dogs in the bathroom?

They're allowed in every room except our bedroom. They're even allowed in the guest bedroom, and slept in there every night when my little brother was staying in there while my parents were out of the country. Normally the guest bedroom door is closed though, so they sleep on the couch.

We don't allow them in our room because I don't want more hair in there than necessary. Plus, Eric was scared that I might make the jump from the dogs sleeping on the bedroom floor to sleeping in bed with us and he did NOT want that :p

When I lived in an apartment by myself, Gavroche had free run of the place. It was a studio, though, so that had something to do with it. He was crated when I was not home.

Once I moved into a house with roommates he was confined to my room unless I was outside of my room - in which case most of the time he had free roam of the house except for my roommates' bedrooms and the bathroom (not because he got in trouble in the bathroom, but because I kept the bathroom door closed anyway). He did go to the bathroom with me when I was in there, though. Occasionally I'd leave him in the bedroom/family room (my living room) gated in...but if he really wanted to be out he'd just jump the gate lol. When I got Logan he was kept confined to my room as well, or with me when I was outside my room. If he was not with me then he was in the family room...he never figured out the whole jumping-over-the-gate thing.

Now in my parents' house they are in my room when I'm up here, in their crates, or downstairs with me (or whoever is home) with access to the living room, dining room and kitchen. They can't be in the bathroom unless I'm in there, and they can't go in the hallway/bedrooms because the litter boxes are in the hallway and Logan discovered that snack (EWWWWWW). Gavroche can of course jump the gates and go wherever he pleases, but generally the only motivation for this is when I say "Are you hungry?" and he jumps the gate to go upstairs and wait for food lol. One or both GSDs and the cats are locked in my parents' bedroom when my dog(s) are out (Max can be out with Logan, but AJ can't be out with anyone, and Gavroche can be out with Logan but nobody else...the cats can be out with Logan but they're psycho and growl/hiss/swat the whole time regardless of what Logan does).

Ideally I'd have my own place again and they'd have free roam of the house for the most part.

Why do so many of you not allow your dogs in the bathroom?
Well for me...certain dogs like to eat certain feminine products. Before I moved in with my roommates' dogs Gavroche did have free access to the bathroom...partially because there was no bathroom door because my bathroom was at the back of my closet, and Gavroche's favorite place was IN my closet lol. But my roommates' dogs LOVED to eat pads and toilet paper and whatever else the could scavenge, so I kept the door closed. Now the bathroom is off the hallway that the litter boxes are in, so the gate is blocking the hallway so Logan doesn't have a snack from the litter boxes. And the bathroom door is usually closed anyway.

Everywhere but the kitchen. But she just knows she is not allowed in the kitchen, there is no barrier or anything
I should mention, she is allowed in the kitchen if she is invited in, which is usually just when we need her "assistance" with food, or when she is getting a treat (all her treats are in the kitchen).

She is VERY good at knowing where the line to the kitchen is, and knows that technically, if she is past that line, she is out of the kitchen.. so we cannot yell at her to get out :rofl1:
