I'm speechless. What a waste. He was set up from the beginning. But I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt and try to help correct the problem. I do feel badly for your situation but it's by your choices that put you where you are...at least for the most part. And by your choices that put Reggin in the grave, bad choices, mistakes...I don't know what to call it. I just hope next time, you don't act that hastily.
I would have told the landlord to get a grip. She acted against the landlord-tenant act (in most states, at least) when she showed up at your door without 24 hour notice. But I guess you didn't know and were intimidated and afraid of losing your place. Couldn't you have kept him in a car or somewhere for just another day or two? Why the rush to take him to a kill shelter? Did he really have a bite history that you knew about and didn't want to tell us about? Those pictures don't mean that he might not have been dangerous or unstable around other people. That was his own family.
It is true that landlords can not evict you that quickly. It is true that a pit bull rescue somewhere might have taken him. My sister's trainer was searching for people to take him in. My sister and my daughter were searching. Everybody was searching and FINDING! If only you had held out one more day before taking him to that shelter. It didn't have to end like this. I was willing to come get him clear from another state and take him home with me until a more suitable home could be found. I put my heart into trying to save him and rally for him. I didn't know his temperament was unduly unstable and shy. No wonder he came unglued at the shelter. (if he did)
I agree that these shelter workers are often times anti pit bull, just like all the other morons in the general public and just get trigger happy with the syringe....mass destruction, make room for "nice" breeds. I was afraid of that from the beginning.
I know that the past is the past and I know you feel badly, that in your frantic state, you didn't think very logically. But I also feel in my gut that the whole truth was hidden from us, we who were trying to help you....that some things never did quite add up squarely.
It won't help Reggin, but I hope it will help any future dogs that you learn from this and don't ever act in such haste again....especially when you have a whole slew of people behind you to offer guidance and support. I won't turn my back on you even though I do think you made some screwy decisions. You must feel awful. I will be here if you feel horrible and need to talk things through.
Such a sad waste though.
