How many dogs do you prefer having?

At home, I have five dogs.
Where I am staying currently, I have one dog.

With five dogs, it's very hectic, and quite stressful, to be honest. All of the dogs have their own individual needs, and although it makes it easier living in the country and woods so they can free range whenever and wherever, it's still tough not being able to take them all when we go somewher as we do not have a car big enough, and hiking is a huge hassle because you have dogs trying to barge past you. Play time is especially stressful because if one dog starts doing something the other dogs catch on and start doing it to, acting as a pack, which makes it doubley hard to train and throw the ball. Of course it has its rewards, too. All kinds of dogs to play with, at least one dog that fits what you want to do perfectly, whether that be swimming, running, biking, hiking, whatever, there is always one dog out of the five that will do perfectly with you at it.

With one dog, it makes it SO much easier. It's not so hectic, you can take her everywhere with you without having to worry about the other dogs or leaving the other dogs out. Its soo much easier to train and play and such. But had to add I don't exactly like having one family dog, I like every family member to have a dog so we can do whatever we want without someone else asking to do something with the dog. But after saying that I don't mind sharing too much and I would be OK with it.

After that being said, I really like having one dog just because I like it simple, I suppose. But I never had a chance to realize that because we have always had at least two dogs, usually three at a time. And just to add; I would have at least one shelter dog at all times :D

What about you?

We have 8. Its not too bad. I find I really only have time to work with 3 or 4 dogs, so its a good thing my son looks like he want to step up.

I think two is the perfect number for me. They are buddies with each other, but both can get enough attention. Some years ago I had three at once, and one was always cranky because I only have enough hands to pet two at once.

It wasn't what you said at all. Home doesn't feel the same without my little bundle of fluff.

Aww Paige ((Hugs))

I'm beginning to rethink how many I've said I'm capable of now with 6!

I think when I'm on my own and probably living alone, 3-4 will be a more suitable number. 5 is really nice with 5 people in the house.

6 is really really pushing it for us, though I wouldn't trade any of them for the world. I know we *could* keep a few more but I doubt that'd be ideal for us or the dogs!

I've always had only one dog at a time, but I just got a new roommate who brought her dog, so I now live with two dogs. The dogs don't really care at all about each other (not aggressive at all, but they don't play together either), so it just comes out being twice as much work for me than one dog.

Plus I train at least 5 dogs a day at work and don't want to come home and do a WHOLE lot of training after work!

I had just Dance for almost all of this month and I didn't like it. Well, I liked all of the extra time I got to spend with just her, but I need at least two dogs to be completely happy. Three is good too, as is four.

I have 2 dogs. All together at my house, we have 4. It's pretty hectic, but I have a feeling it's because different people do different things with there own dogs. I have a feeling that if *I* had 4 dogs of my own, it wouldn't be bad. I like having one dog with me at times, but I also like having multiple dogs with me at times.

At this point, I'm not really sure what my "perfect number" is. :)

BTW I forgot to add that I HATE having just the one at college. I am the kind of person that definitely needs at least two.

I like having two dogs. They entertain each other, keep each other company, and I like having both of them. One dog is nice, but it's up to me to be entertaining for him, and that's just not possible every single time he wants to play.

two has always been a good number for us...but now we are at three and I am finding it to work out ok. I think because Traveler is that much older and is happy to be with us, have the occasional outing, etc.
Now that we have the third, he and Baxter play together alot--and that keeps them both happy and tiring each other out.
I haven't tackled a "group" outing by myself yet--I can handle two, but three might really challenge me!
Anyway--I really find I like to have more than one. :p

I have six, and the occasional foster. I like having a lot of dogs, but my ideal number would really be just three.

We have 4, none are "family dogs" 1 is mine, 1 is my sisters, 2 are my mums which I mainly look after.
I agree its hectic, its fun but its hectic, especially now that we have to shuffle them around, and the pack drive thing can get pretty annoying.
Plus because they belong to 3 different people and we all have different opinions on food and training etc, its not as consisitent as it should/could be.

We used to always have 3 dogs, which we could handle fine, and 4 dogs would probably okay except that the 4th dog is Harry, he's not an easy dog in the slightest.

IN future I would like to have 2 for a while, until Buster ages a fair bit (he's 5 now) and then maybe add a third. 3 would probably suit me well once I'm more set up. Only having one dog around will be weird, we've never really only had one dog. I guess I'll like only having one mouth to feed for a while but I think I'll probably want to get a second when I can.

I have 11 (5 are mine 6 are my mom's and my brother helps with all of them)...Though, I am the one that gets to do all the "fun" stuff like cleaning up their poo in the backyard, picking up whatever messes they make, bathing them, filling food dishes and waterers.... and I am also the only one that walks them and takes them to the dog park. My mom gives them a lot of personal time, and cuddles and making sure to not keep up with their training..and rewarding Charlotte for growling at the others..and feeding them table scraps..

Woops, I am rambling! But its alright. In the future..I think 1-2 large dogs, and maybe 3 small dogs would be great for me. :). And I don't think once I move out my mom should have more than 1 dog, and that dog should be a very low maintenance breed who doesn't need a lot of exercise.

Me personally, I take the time to train my dogs and make sure they get exercise and mental stimulation.

Three is perfect. Yes, three. Ideally, two would be much nicer but Miley is so neuteral she sort of cancels out in a lot of ways. She requires no effort on my part. If I had another dog like the boys right now I think I'd combust.
