I thought this was a really nice tribute that they did on The Voice...

I just have a hard time shaking this whole thing from my head. My niece's preschool had their Christmas concert tonight and looking at all those kids just made me think of the victims. Ugh.

Can I just say that WBC is NOT a "Baptist" church? As a southern Baptist, it is highly upsetting and disturbing that such a hate group refers to themselves as a Baptist church. They're evil. They're disgusting. And I don't know a single person of faith that has an inkling of "like" for them, much less condones them. I'd put myself in their path any day. They are a hate group. Nothing more. Nothing less.

As for the shooter's mother, I kinda of gathered that she pulled her son out of school because of bullying and mistreatment towards him. This doesn't equate to her poisoning his mind with revenge and violence. As a mother of a special needs child, it's hard to see your child seemingly beaten down emotionally, if not physically, day after day. I know many mothers of SN kids that homeschool because of this. But it doesn't mean they fill their children's heads with harsh words about others and carrying out acts of revenge.

It's very possible this mother was trying her best to deal with her lost son and help him be successful. He was 20-yrs-old, for gooodness sakes. He made up his own mind. Sadly, it sounds as if it was a broken mind.

Agreed.

It's like comparing actual Muslims to the wackos who commit all sorts of violence (bombing, flying planes into buildings, etc) in the name of Allah and call themselves Muslim. Not. Even. Close.

We are Baptist......WBC does not represent ANYTHING I've seen in any Baptist charter. We have good friends who are Muslim.....they aren't terrorist or anything like those murderers.

6-year-old Connecticut shooting victim died in arms of teacher's aide, family says

One of the young victims in the Connecticut shooting massacre was a special needs student who died in the arms of his beloved teacher's aide, the child's parents said.

Dylan Hockley, 6, was found wrapped in the arms of Ann Marie Murphy, 52, who pulled the boy close to her as she tried to shield him from the spray of bullets that killed them both.

"We take great comfort in knowing that Dylan was not alone when he died," his parents, Ian and Nicole Hockley, said Monday, according to the Connecticut Post.

Dylan adored Murphy, whom his parents described as "amazing," and he would point to her picture on the family's refrigerator every day.

The Hockley family moved to Sandy Hook two years ago from England, in love with the sense of community and the elementary school that their boys, Dylan and Jake, would attend. Dylan's mother, Nicole, is American, and his father, Ian, is British.

They moved into a house on the same street as the mother of the shooter, Adam Lanza.

In a statement, the family said their youngest boy had thrived at Sandy Hook.

"We do not and shall never regret this choice," the Hockleys said. "Our boys have flourished here and our family's happiness has been limitless."

Dylan had a beaming smile. He played tag every morning at the bus stop with neighbors, bounced on the trampoline and played computer games. He loved the color purple, seeing the moon and chocolate. He was learning to read and was proud to show off his new skills to his parents. Jake was his best friend and role model.

"We love you Mister D," the Hockleys wrote in their statement.

The Voice Tribute made me tear up as well. I had started watching the episode on a different tab and halfway through the song I started wondering why it was starting with a song, and I saw them holding up Catherine Hubbards name. I can't imagine it. I read about it after coming home from working with 3 year olds, and wow. No words.

I wish my parents would have pulled me out of school too in those early days (elementary / junior high) almost my entire school career was torture.

A CHURCH group I was planning on protesting the funeral??? Why??? I know "because they are evil dicks" but what is their real reasoning I wonder?

Because it gets them attention. They show up wherever they are bound to get media coverage.

Their theological reasoning is soemthing along the lines of "These people are dead because God is punishing the USA for not burning gay people at the stake."

Edit: Even the KKK hates them. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...he-kkk-meets-the-westboro-baptist-church.html

I think this is true of too many children who grow up to be messed up because of the cruelty of children in schools. It's funny that the social pressure among kids and the need to feel special causes kids to be so unbelievably cruel.

I don't think in the early years kids have the empathy to understand how much words can hurt...and if you don't learn it at home, it just gets worse.

It is all just so awfully tragic...
