It's been about 2 months since my hair straightener broke, and I'm tired of being ugly. Also, might be taking senior pictures on Friday.. so will need to straighten my hair.

I don't know what kind or type or brand to get. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to pay more than 50 dollars.

Right now I'm looking at this one:

Advice anyone! please? I have no clue what ones are best.

Dude, those are some nice looking ones, Renee....

I got a cheapo at Wal-Mart for $20. It's a bronze Conair, looks quite a bit like the one you linked to, Tess. It works just fine for me, but I don't straighten all the time so I'm not really sure if it's 'good' or not. Might be worth it to invest in something nice if it wont destroy your hair.

I'm pretty sure I'm actually going to get this one:

Conair has been suggested to me by a few different people, and don't need anything too expensive.. So Dustin will probably buy that one for me as an early christmas present. But.. I don't know if that means I'll get it soon, or if it will end up as more like a christmas present. Dustin tends to talk about getting me a lot of things but doesn't usually get around to it.

I have a Chi which I swear by. It is a little more pricey than you want to spend but when you decide you want to invest in the best straightener you have ever put through your hair, it is well worth the money. I can even walk out in the rain and get a little dampness without frizz or flyaways!

Speaking of straightening hair, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on not frying my hair? When I do get this straightener I will start straightening more often again. Probably not every day, but on the days I don't straighten, its a possibility that I'll still be blowdrying my hair. I don't want to completely fry my hair. I've seen girls that have done that from 4+ years of straightening and it looks terrible. Should I be using any special shampoos or conditioners? Or something else in my hair to prevent damage?

My hair is pretty bad, it used to go all silky when it was straightened but now it is just prety dry most of the time, not too bad though.
I use spary i put in after everytime I wash it, a decent hairdresser shoudl have one, I am going to change to a better quality shampoo soon but havn't yet.
My last straightner I've had almost a year, it will probably only do me abohter 12 months or so but it cost $300 when I got it.

Chi is really good but expensive. I am using a Conair with ceramic plates right now and it needs to be replaced it pulls my hair so bad. Since the lady who does my hair gets me all my products at cost I think I might invest in a Chi or Hot Tools.

This site is pretty good -- it gives you reviews on all flat irons.

I have a conair ceramic straightener and it works pretty well, I paid like $20 for it at Sally and it's lasted a few years with no problems. My stylist has one from CHI that I really like, but I can't afford it at the moment.

I used to use a Chi... I went through 3 of them in a period of a year! :yikes: They kept on breaking... 2 of them were within the warrenty period, and the other one wasn't.

I have a $60-70 flat iron from Sally Beauty now... it's lasted about 2 years, but I haven't straightened my hair in forever. It works great... here's a link:

Herschel, my hair is wavy and even if blow dried, it might be a bit straighter, but it is a poofy, ugly mess.

I know everyone says that you get what you pay for, but you have to understand that I'm still the girl that has to save every penny, the girl that doesn't even eat much because I'm saving even that money, because I need to move out of my house and be able to buy a car and support myself. In fact, probably the only reason I AM actually going to get it is because Dustin has already ordered it and is paying for it as an early christmas present. Otherwise, I probably would have decided I woudln't waste my money on something so stupid.

But, it should be here in 7-14 days as of yesterday. :)

Tessa, do you have a marshalls or TJ Maxx by you?? They sell ceramic hair straighteners there. I discovered this after my hair stylist gave me a VERY hefty discount on a Rusk straightener. I was so happy to only have paid $100 for it. Well, I then saw it 2 weeks later at TJ Maxx for $40. Lets just say I was a little peeved, cause since it was an "under the table" discount, I couldnt exactly return it.

I like it a lot...I would *NOT* recommend paying the original $200 it is supposed to cost, but it works better than the $40 conair one I had before for sure!

For ceramic ones, you are supposed to use a special spray...without it, apparently it almost defeats the purpose of having ceramic in the first place.

If you have super frizzy hair, I would really try to go for a ceramic b/c that is almost the only way to prevent fly-aways. If your hair isnt that bad, then i would recommend the conair I had previously...

i just realized it says its ceramic. I have no clue what the diff btwn the cheapo ceramics and the expensive ceramics are, lol

Dreez, I have NOTHING by me. I have a walmart and kmart, and that is it.

It is ceramic, and others have told me this one is good. My hair's not too frizzy, but it is puffy and wavy. I don't know what to use in my hair though. What kind of spray? I bet its expensive. :(
