Tessa, do you have a marshalls or TJ Maxx by you?? They sell ceramic hair straighteners there. I discovered this after my hair stylist gave me a VERY hefty discount on a Rusk straightener. I was so happy to only have paid $100 for it. Well, I then saw it 2 weeks later at TJ Maxx for $40. Lets just say I was a little peeved, cause since it was an "under the table" discount, I couldnt exactly return it.

I like it a lot...I would *NOT* recommend paying the original $200 it is supposed to cost, but it works better than the $40 conair one I had before for sure!

For ceramic ones, you are supposed to use a special spray...without it, apparently it almost defeats the purpose of having ceramic in the first place.

If you have super frizzy hair, I would really try to go for a ceramic b/c that is almost the only way to prevent fly-aways. If your hair isnt that bad, then i would recommend the conair I had previously...

i just realized it says its ceramic. I have no clue what the diff btwn the cheapo ceramics and the expensive ceramics are, lol
I think the difference is that they don't heat up as quickly, nor do they get as hot. A few years ago I bought a $20 ceramic iron and my hair ended up getting stuck between the plates :yikes: . It just wasn't very well designed.

I've never heard of using any spray... I use Stick Straight by Graham Webb when I straighten my hair, and it does a really good job. It's a gel that you put in before you straighten it.

Dreez, I have NOTHING by me. I have a walmart and kmart, and that is it.

It is ceramic, and others have told me this one is good. My hair's not too frizzy, but it is puffy and wavy. I don't know what to use in my hair though. What kind of spray? I bet its expensive. :(
geez, that sucks about no TJ Maxx or Marshalls! sorry :(

Yeah, tessa, the spray is friggin $15 (it looks like a huge hairspray bottle...so its not *that* bad). I am on my first bottle though, and when I start running out, I plan on looking into other brands. I am sure you can find cheaper. I am using Rusk Str8 (its in a yellow bottle)

I def notice a difference when I use the spray with my straightener though...it usually looks much sleeker and will stay looking good for longer.

I dont know anyone with the one in the link you gave unfortunately. The one i linked was my first one ever, and I bought it b/c it was the one most of my friends had.

You can always buy, try and return :p Obvs thats not the best thing to do, but if for some reason it really really sucks (which i doubt it will), its always a nice fall back!

Well, it was ordered online, so I won't be able to return it. And its going to be better than what I did have, a $20 cheap revlon straightener. So no matter, I'll be happy. It heats up really fast, can straighten both wet and dry hair, is the size I wanted(not the really small thin ones), and I like the look of it too. :)

If years down the road I want somethign more expensive, I'd be willing to look at the more high quality ones.. but for now, not wasting any more money than I have to, (or in this case, making the boyfriend spend too much money on me).

Im going to agree with joce the wet to straight(i think by conair) works really well it has 30 diffrent heat settings and you use the lowest one that will wkr for your hair. I have had mine for a year and share it with my little sister and it is still going strong(you can also by it at walmart or target:) )

I used the chi spray when I had the chi-it all worked well together but for my hair the wet to straights the best. Its actually kind of the same premise as using the spray. It makes it so smooth but I don't think its actually whats in the spray-I've heard misting water with any straightener does the same thing.

I've always been told you pick a straightener by passes. You want to have it straight one on pass on your hair. So generally the hotter the better. I know some people who say do it on the lowest setting to save the hair but that means you do four passes on each section of hair and then there is a lot of breakage. Thats why some people have horribly frizzy hair after using a straightener-and its really bad if not straightened for a day.
