and I have no idea why!

She was a little lethargic this morning, and she didnt eat all of her hay. But i wasnt really worried about her. I came home from work and got her out of her cage. She ate some hay and was hopping around. JUST now. I heard a plop, and I looked in her pen, and she was dead.

I have no clue what happened, and I am pretty upset :(

Poor girl! I guess it was just her time. :( I'm so sorry.

My old dog went like that. Was fine one minute, gone the next.

Marsha was young and healthy. until now.

I still have her body beside me. I am sorta at a loss what to do with her. I cant toss her like trash, but I dont want to bury her. I dont want to be underground, and i dont want her to be either. I think I will just go lay her in the woods :(

I am sooo bummed out

As morbid as this sounds, maybe you could save her hide so you've got something to stroke?

zoom, that was actually morbidly funny.

nah, it almost crossed my mind to keep it and use it for the flirt pole. but its angora fur, and i see that being messy with the dogs tugging it, etc. and that IS morbid.

I have the dogs, and two more buns for stroking.

I am not going to die myself, like I died when Chance (the bored collie) died. Luckily I was not overly attached to Marsha yet. I was getting there though. She was my newest rescue bun (failed foster!) I have had her for... maybe 3 months

Aww, I'm sorry about your bunny!

I can say from experience... they are like that. Honestly, the species is MEANT to breed in large quantities and die in large quantities, and you can be an awesome owner and take them to the vet at the first *hint* of trouble and spend $2000 on them and they still die, for no apparent reason. IME, when you notice them *thinking* about being sick, they are hours away from death. That said, my oldest couple are 8 or so? And I just recently had another from that trio die.

I, like you, hate burying them. I will never understand putting a creature in nasty wormy earth, unless for practical reasons. I always laid mine in the bush. They'll get eaten by something or decay... somehow that seems so much more appealing than mucky earth. Just make sure that you put her far enough away that she doesn't "come back" courtesy of one of your dogs.

Again, sorry for your loss :(.

Sorry to hear about your bunny. :(

I had a guinea pig that went like that, what kind of hay are you feeding? We were feeding hay for our horses and I gave him some, unfortunately it had a high cyanide content and killed him within a few hours...I wish I could remember the kind of hay it was...some type of grass hay (I think it started with a T but wasn't timothy - it was for a horse that had foundered...blah)

Things like this just happen, and bunnies are so touchy when it comes to things, again I'm very sorry for your loss.

Thanks everyone.

my rabbits get oxbow hay. its probably the best hay that you can get. but nothing is impossible.

geez, I never lost an animal besides Chance (border collie) and he was PTS and I never even seen him dead because i could not bare to be with him. it would had made him upset to see me in hysterics. It was so weird seeing Marsha go limp and not breathing. I couldnt believe she was dead. I had my ear to her chest hoping to hear something, that maybe she wasnt really dead. but yeah, she was dead.

I am sorry. It is a horrible thing to witness. I still cannot get the images of Bens death out of my mind. I know what you are going through.

you are taking Ben a lot worse than I am taking Marsha. I was not really attached to her.

I know how much Ben met to you. and how tragic that was. I cannot even imagine what it was like with Ben :(

I had Marsha for 2-3 months. you had Ben lots longer than that.

I am awful sad, but I am not crying. When Chance died I cried for weeks.
I just think it is so weird to touch, feel, and see you pets dead body right after it was fine! such a shock.

Hubby doesnt care much for the rabbits. but he was very supportive.
It was hard for me to cry long, because Lynn keep licking my tears and wagging her tail. even scratching me with her paw as to say "mom, stop crying"

I'm so sorry :(

Even if she wasn't with you long, it's still hard when they go. As for the body do whatever you are most comfortable with. Personally when Sasha passed at home (ferret), I brought her to the vet and had her cremated. That was just the easiest thing for me as like you I didn't want to just put her in the ground and certainly wouldn't have felt right putting her in the trash. It's typically pretty cheap if you don't ask for the ashes back.

WHen my baby squirrel died, while he was fresh and warm i laid him up on the highest visible branch I could figuring he would be a meal for something and that might spare something else for a day. I am sorry for Marsha, I hope there was no pain. Hop free girl. Rabbits should have a heaven too where there are no predators.

I hope a nice fox got a meal out of her, or fed her to the baby foxes.

I have been really spending lots more time with Ryo and Charmin since last night. It made me realize how important my bunnies are to me.

Im so sorry for your loss. I always admired how beautiful Marsha was in your sig. Im also a lover of Angora's. ((((((Many hugs))))) and (((((((nuzzles from the buns))))).

I also agree with Xandra. It seems like a sick bun rarely bounces back. Im hoping my girls make it their full 10 years. They steal your heart.
