For right NOW, I am confident in my opinion. I am confident in it not only because *I* know that it is the right one for me, but because some of the most respectable and good adults I know hold the same opinion.

So, although I'm more than welcome for change when it is NEEDED, I don't think I need to change my opinion on the purpose of life. ;)
I thought I knew all that at 16 too ;)

Frowned on my friends for *gasp* smoking :yikes: Lectured my friends that did anything *harder* than cigarettes!

I'm not saying you should try things like pot (heaven forbid), I am saying don't be so SURE all the time. Flexibilty is a GREAT thing to have.

The world isn't set in stone.

You hold adults in SUCH high regard..... I can't understand why you want to grow up so quickly..... We had a lovely lecture on old age before xmas. And how in the palative care hostels you tend to get 2 types of old people...

The ones that look back and think, yep, satisfied, and ones that look back and are bitter having rushed through life and not LIVED.

At 16 I was SURE I was right, at 25 I know I am just here to listen and learn and LIVE.

Maybe everyone doesn't have the same life philosophy as you. Morality is relative. I think it's unfair to expect everyone to try to reach your standards. Maybe they are content with where they are at. Don't expect so much from other people, don't waste time trying to change others so much. Just surround yourself with those who see the world the same way you do.
Having the desire to help people has always been, and always will be, something about me I do not and will not give up. I will recognize that I cannot force people to change, but if they come to me for that help, I'll help them. Therefore, I refuse to surround myself with only people that think like me. To do so is ignorance. If I am only surrounded by others that think like me, how am I ever to get a different perspective to learn, grow, and change?

Butt.. I fear people have started more turning this into a thread about my opinion and me.. adn tht was not the intention of the OP I am sure. So, if you'd like to carry on a conversation more about this certain topic and about me, please do so in a PM so this thread doesn't get even more off-topic:p

There's a difference between helping people who ask for it and trying to make everyone adhere to your moral code. It seems like you kill yourself trying to change people. Of course I have friends that have different opinions and morals than me, and that can be fine and dandy. But sometimes there is a fundamental personality or lifestyle conflict that can't be resolved. But I wouldn't try to change that person... Who's to say I'm more correct than they are? Who wants their friends preaching at them all the time? Sometimes it's best to go your separate ways... and I'm content with that. I don't expect to get along with everyone, I don't expect everyone to live their life the way I do. As I said, morality is relative. Do you even acknowledge that that's so?

I actually was completely against pot and alcohol until I was 17... I said that I would NEVER smoke or drink in my life. I actually threatened to break up with my boyfriend at the time because he would have a drink or 2 at home.

I have never smoked cigarettes in my life still (and never will), but I have tried smoking weed before (I don't anymore, and it was only a few times that I have), but I don't think that anything is wrong with smoking weed and drinking in moderation.

I guess I've changed a bit since highschool.

I don't care if someone smokes marijuana, but I would be concerned if, say, it was interfering with a friend's life. Otherwise it doesn't matter. I dislike cigarettes a lot more.

Decriminalize marijuana for medicinal purposes.

No, I don't smoke it. It's too strong now.

I think it should be legalized. "It can be used improperly" or "It can be harmful" could apply to all sorts of substances that are legal- alcohol, cough syrup, McDonalds, etc. Most anything that can be used can be abused. I say legalize it so that the government can collect taxes on it. I'm all for peoples' vices being used to generate money for roads, schools, health care, and such.

And no, I don't use it. I also swore I would never drink, but then I turned 21. :p

Tessa, I think what most people here are trying to say is that it's just the same as any other addiction. If you abuse it, it has a bad effect. They are not trying to say MARIJUANA IS AWESOME!!! YOU SHOULD TRY IT!!!

Marijuana should be legalized, because it's not more harmful than smoking, alcohol, and other harmful and legal things in this world.

Wow...I just read all 12 pages. =O

Ever heard of someone being a mean "high"? Doubt it, makes people lovers, not fighters, ha...
A drunk will drive right through a Stop sign. A pot head will stop, look both ways 20 times, then drive through it.
A drunk will drive 100 miles per hour for fun....
A pot head will drive 5-10 miles under the speed limit.
Alcohol causes people to loose control and black out......
Alcohol is physically addictive, pot is not.
LMAO! That is so, incredibly, true. =] Plus, unless you have smoked immense amounts, it really has no bodily influence. You can still control impulses perfectly fine.

It's also been proven that THC does no long term damage. There is a type of smoking device, can't remember what it's called, but it basically heats the pot to kind of a boiling point where the THC is released, but it's not heated enough to smoke. The smoke is where all the damage comes from, not the THC which is what people are after.
That's called a vaporizer. They're awesome. My friend Josh has an $800 vaporizer called a Volcano, it literally does no damage and all you need is a little bit. Still... the whole process of packing & rolling & passing is fun.

About the whole preachey anti-weed thing, I'm not even going to get into that. Especially since it's coming from some one with waaaay less experience than me. Like others have said, as long as you aren't hurting anyone, and you're taking care of yourself & keeping your stuff together, I have no problem with it at all. As was mentioned before, if the gov't taxed marijuana, there would be much more money to go into policing serious drugs that do damage people, the laws regarding it would give people guidelines, marijuana would be much better, and it's very likely that crime/theft/usage would actually go down. Look at Amsterdam and other countries that legalized it, they're better off for it.

ihartgonzo, all I have to say is just one thing. The most intelligent, most caring, and best adults I know are ones that know even young people can know more about them in some areas. Adults that know even young people aren't stupid and that young people can teach them a lot. I've been through my share of things (too much for my liking, actually) and those adults which I speak of know it, accept it, and give me credit where credit is due. And one day I will be one of those adults. :)

I agree with Tessa.

If you have to get high to be happy, you need to seriously think about your life and learn how to be happy without taking drugs to do it.

I really don’t see how making the decision to not do drugs, not drink, and not smoke makes someone a really good high-horse rider?

I am so sick of people saying, “Well, this doesn’t hurt other people, so I can do it.” When that really is not true.
By doing drugs and getting high, you are hurting all of the people who love you. They worry about you because you are getting high.
By getting drunk, you can easily hurt someone else, whether it be in a fight, a car accident, or by worrying the people who love you.
The list goes on – Julie said it well.

And I really don’t think Tessa should be attacked for her opinions. She has not been rude or stuck-up in this thread.. Just because someone disagrees with you does not mean you can throw a hissy fit because they’re being “mean”.

That’s all.

What are your guys' views on it? alright here it goes... i smoke pot...reguardless of what people think,i like the taste of it, the smell of it, the way it enhances the moment...i like how you can walk into a party and instantly break the ice with a bowl, creating instant friendships, and the type of people i hang out with aren't degenerates, they are regular people with regular jobs.... I would much rather smoke then drink any day, alcohol is terrible on your body, when you're drunk you turn in to another person, you can't see straight, driving is extremely dangerous. while smoking... i could pull my dad's 22 foot ranger bass boat from st. louis to lake of the ozarks without so much as stutter.
Our goverment made the wrong drug illegal, if you legalize weed and allow distrubution imagine how much money will be taken away from drug cartels all over the us, and the the amount of tax based income the us would receive as a result of public sales

LEGALIZE!
