We have 19% salestax. And between 10 and 40% income tax, depending on how much you earn. Nuff said.
Most of our taxes go to the wrong causes. I hate our government...
You know, Gypsy, I have yet to hear anyone, from anywhere, say that they LOVE their government. Their country, yes. Some individual politician, occasionally. Their government? No.
Edit: And I've seen attempts to make the "government" of several nations more "friendly" and "likeable" . . . the result is invariably creepy.
No no, I REALLY really strongly dislike out governtment right now. They're doing crap, and no ones notices till its too late. Our gas prices have just jumped up, for no apparent reason. Why? Because we are getting a new type of gas! YAY for us. Americas had E10 (your gas has 10% ethanol ours didnt) for yearsssss. They are currently charging 1,52€ a liter wtf? The barrel price isnt even very high. I want American gas prices. Can we trade for just a day, pretty please?

Well, only if you want our unbelievable urban sprawl, lousy public transportation, hordes of ginormous vehicles, great plains of parking lots, air pollution, and one to two hour commutes as part of the deal.

Did you have the petrol strikes over there? Few years back now. All the tankers queued up in the petrol stations and made blockades so no one could buy petrol at all.
eta - I don't think it'll be long before we see it again actually.
