I was reading over a grooming guide and need to know if it is true that dogs who are show dogs, in general, have to have their respective whiskers removed?????? This groomer mentioned that show dogs have their whiskers removed.
I think she means shaved. It all depends on the breed. I don't remove whiskers on the Rottweiler nor the Peke. Bulldogs have them removed. It just depends.

They are trimmed off on the Collie and Sheltie to "smooth out" the face (in the US anyway). It's not a written requirement in the standard, just 'one of those things' that you do.
Well, I didn't know exactly what was meant by "removed", however, my little pupster Aussie has the cutest whiskers on his muzzle and sprouting from his eyebrow area, too. They are just so cute and precious looking.....IMO.
Smudge's face grows 1/2" or so of fuzz. There is a huge difference for him shaved vs not. As cute as he is looking like a gorilla.. I like him looking neat and clean.
Shaved here too....If i get lazy and they grow i don't like giving kisses as much, or getting them for that matter...So we shave whiskers on muzzle, above eyes and sides of cheeks (moles...lol)
So i wouldn't call it having them "removed" but yes they are cut off...
