.. who is now ten weeks old and currently terrorizing the rest of the girls!
She came to me from a kennel in Texas and is German and Czech lines. Her grandfather on one side has been the Hungarian (Working) Champion several times, and a grandfather on the other side is a working police dog. She's a very bright, sharp, confident pup with strong retrieving instincts. She's been completely sociable and willingly meets other dogs and people.
The girls are accepting her without squabbles, although Dora and Kylee pretty much pretend she doesn't exist. Khana is going through "I'm not the puppy anymore??" anxiety and has become more clingy than I've ever seen her be. She's under my feet as I type and the other day tried to sit in my lap when I was sitting on the bed .. *LOL* .. a 56 pound chow is NOT supposed to be a lap dog! But she also plays with the pup some and I think she'll work through this fine. She's been the "baby" for over 2 1/2 years so this is definitely new to her. I'm sure she's given me the "you must be kidding, we're not KEEPING this thing" look several times.
Trick is amazing with the pup, as usual. She has been the most extraordinary puppy-raising dog and I think it's because she was also raised by a very good puppy-raising dog (my first shepherd, Dawson). Trick puts up with the puppy stuff but also tells her to back off on occasion. She willingly gives up her toys and sticks to Tazer and fully accepts the pup jumping on her and being obnoxious (as pups tend to be! *L*).
Tazer is hugely entertaining, too. I've been letting the dogs run in a local ball field (softball season is over here) and she does a really cute "drop and stalk". Trick will be trotting toward us and Tazer will suddenly fling her little body down into the grass, head down, eyes fixed on Trick .. and then will erupt up out of the grass when Trick gets close enough. It's hilarious to watch! She definitely has prey drive and will also retrieve anything. She is only sleeping 5-6 hours at night so far, but she's just ten weeks old so I can't expect her to sleep as long as I want to yet! It only took a few days to crate train her and she has been consistently going out to potty ever since.
Here are a couple more photos of Khana and Tazer in the field Friday. As you can tell, Khana is tolerant but is not completely sure she wants a pup hanging off of her! *LOL*
