William has been very sick since Friday. I came home from class and found out that he had a fever so I gave him tylenol to get the fever down. He was still acting normal, but I just kept an eye on his temp.
Well saturday morning I wake up and you could practically fry an egg on that little boy. So we rushed off to the doctor where we are told that he has the flu... they did a flu test but it came back negative. The DR. told us that is was something Viral and prescribed Tamiflu (a med. to help you get over the flu faster) which made no sense considering the flu test came back negative, but the doctor said it would help kill the virus... so ok, I filled that and it's literally a 3 man job to get that medicine down him! He fights us sooo hard on it.

So, basically, William has NO energy what-so-ever... no appetite and wont drink hardly anything. He wakes up really thirsty and drinks about 8-12 ounces of water or pedialyte and then pretty much stops drinking. We keep offering him anything we can think of, juice, water, pedialyte, 7-up, popsicles, jello...anything.... but he sometimes takes a sip and then is done with it... the only thing I have been able to get him to eat today is 1/2 of one of those individual single serving applesauce cups and probably 1/8 of a banana

His fever is all over the place going as high as 103.8 but never under 100 degrees...
We just got back from the ER (becuase his fever was 103.8 and we couldnt get him to stay awake plus he has only had two wet diapers today) and the DR. said to stop giving the Tamiflu med and to alternate Tylenol and Motrin (we had only been giving tylenol) and if we couldnt get him to drink more than 16 ounces of liquid tomorrow that he needs to go in and be admitted to the hospital for IV fluids....

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE... Send us your good vibes

Right now,William is cuddled up next to me sleeping.... his next dose of motrin is at 2AM... jeeze... im gonna be a zombie at school tomorrow...

Edit---- this is also the reason why I havent posted pictures of the bowl that SMKIE made and Zoom gave to me in my SS package... I have been very pre-occupied...

Hi,

Oh I am so sorry..poor William. :( Everyone is sick lately.....argh!
I hope everything clears up!

Won't drink anything? Or eat? That's so difficult...but it really is hard to do something like that when you don't have much energy and/or don't want too....so I do understand.

Good luck! Best thoughts and wishes off to you guys!

((Hugs**

I'll be praying for him. The Tylenol Motrin alternating usually does the trick usually for us within 24 hours. Keep getting the fluids in him even if you have to wake him up to take little sips. We usually use powerade because it was the only thing my nephew would accept. Gee Wizz I know it is hell when the poor things are sick and there is only so much you can do. Hopefully he will be feeling better soon.

I hope William feels better soon. I used to get the flu a lot as a child, and even wound up in the hospital once because I got dehydrated.

Sending get well vibes.

Prayers for you and William. But you know what? Most kids end up in the hospital with an IV at some point before they turn 10. It's bound to happen. I know it's scary as heck, but it's not THAT serious and he'll be fine, if he does have to go to the hospital.

It can be stressful trying to get your child to drink when they're not interested. Just keep offering him the popsicles and other things he might like. Even if it's a few sips here and there..... keep offering. If you can keep the fever down that will help a great deal with his hydration status. The motrin is what usually does the trick. You can alternate that tylenol and motrin every four hours around the clock if you have to. If his fever shoots up despite the tylenol and motrin... you can get some luke warm water and soak some wash cloths and place them in his groin, armpits and on his head if he'll let you. If he won't... you might have to put him in a luke warm bath if the temperature gets really high. Don't use cold water.. just luke warm.

Keep an eye on his lips to see if they're getting dry and cracked. Watch for dark areas around his eyes... almost like they're sunken in... these are all signs of dehydration. You can take a little pinch of his skin and gently tent the skin and then let go. If the skin stays tented or "pinched" up that is also a sign of dehydration. Definately keep track of how much he's drinking and peeing out. Pay attention to the color and odor of his urine. If it starts to get dark and concentrated with a strong smell it's a good chance he's well on his way to being dehydrated.

I hope William starts feeling better soon.
