I just think it's funny that people will jump down someones throat because they spent some extra money on pampering their pooch, when some people leave their dogs outside on a chain, with nothing more than some kibble, and a backward glance.

My ACD absolutely loves the snow, can't stand hot weather. I've never seen her shiver even after being outside for hours. I don't think she'll ever need a coat!
Looks like Quinn is going to be the same. It snowed this morning and just a couple days ago we had to put the AC on in the truck because she was too hot - my mom and I were freezing, she was happy though! Oddly enough they were both born early August, you'd think that after being born in the summer they'd be okay with October temperatures.

We have bought clothes for the dogs before them, though. Our JRT would freeze in the winter. We'd go out for rides or walks in the fields and she'd try so hard to keep up but she'd have all this snow stuck to her belly and would be shivering like crazy so we'd have to pick her up and carry her home in our jackets. We'd buy her horse blanket style ones like this though, vs. sweaters.

My mother's standard poodle has had back surgery. Initially, the vet recommended mom put a sweater on her to keep her back warm on cold nights while it healed. Now Tarnish (the poodle) will not go to bed if its cold without her sweater (she will if it is warm though) . . .she'll nuzzle Mom until she gets her sweater and puts it on.

So

1) some dogs CLEARLY get cold and need additional heat
2) some dogs LIKE their clothes
3) and there may be good medical reasons for those clothes

As for my dogs, there's no doubt Docket gets cold LONG before Sarama does. We've never tried putting clothes on him (if its cold we just don't put him out in the yard except to pee and let him curl up on the bed to his heart's content) But if we lived somewhere with a harsher climate, we might. For a Cardigan he has a pretty thin coat.

People can just be ignorant!

And I also will put him in a t-shirt every now and then when it gets into the 50's and low 60's. Does he really NEED that? Probably not. But I think he looks cute. So hmph. ;);)
Heck he is cute with or without a T shirt. I'm not a fan of terriers but if I were to have a terrier a Yorkie would be the breed.

Lola like Laurelin's dog's has hair also so she has a coat that I put on her when it is cold out. The first time I put it on her it was really cold out and when we came back in I took the coat off her and it was warm from her body heat on the inside. So that shows that dogs can retain heat if they have a coat on.

I see no harm in putting a coat on a dog if it keeps it warm now the dresses is a little too much. I put a coat on Blue for the winter to help him for warmth, but mainly so people see him when we are out a white dog in snow it can hard to pick him out especially if it's snowing hard.
