I was watching Dakota, Dash and Zaphod interacting tonight and it made me think about how different their personalities are.

Eve is a split personality. She's dead serious sometimes (usually when work is involved) and other times she's completely manic with silliness. I expect that she'll be a pretty serious dog at adulthood.

Dash is never totally serious, but being 9 months old I'd expect that from her.

Dakota takes everything seriously. It takes effort to get him to lighten up and play like a puppy.

Zaphod is nothing but a goof 99% of the time. Only things he takes seriously are food and guarding his space.

VERY! lol

Well the 3 oldies are not as mad as Joey, but they still have their moment,s kizzy is coming up to 14 this year and she will still play if you initiate it. Joey would be on the go 24.7 if you let him

Mitzi and ben are more laid back, they prefare food!

Phoebe is pretty stoic and serious most of the time. The only time she lightens up is running with the kids outside.

Orson is NEVER serious unless it's food time! THEN he is as serious as a heart attack.......not aggressive or vicious, but TOTAL concentration on the edible item, LOL He can take a very mundane item and turn it into a toy........tossing it to and fro if there is no one else to play with him. He will be TWO in April......I don't think he will ever really "grow up" and that's ok with me :)

He would play all day long all the time if I wanted to or he had another dog to do it with who wanted to. It took some effort, but now he's figured out if I don't want to play he can play on his own with his own toys.

Meg is weird. She is very self-concious, for lack of a better term, in front of strange people or animals. Teaching her to tug at home took a while, but teaching her to tug in public has been a year-long process...and she still worries. When it is just me, or people she knows, she can be an absolute goofball with toys, or just play bowing and doing puppy fits. As soon as their are strangers afoot, she comes and sits next to me.

Dance has times when she's very serious and times where she thinks playing/having fun is all there is to life. She's just a little bit more playful and silly than she is serious.

Winston is serious about 90% of the time, but does have his playful, silly times too.

Morgan... she's incapable of taking anything seriously, ever. To the point where it just gets to be annoying.

Sawyer has his goofy moments but can be pretty serious, or at least restrained, most of the time. He's always up for a good game of chase and "get the ball". Most people would call this fetch, except that I have to get Virgo to go pry the ball out of his mouth and bring it back to me.

Virgo is only ever a goof with me. She's a very serious dog for the most part.

Fozzie is VERY playful. If you look at him funny, he will think you're initiating play. ; ) And he is not biased towards species. He can get a dog to play with him, a cat (even cats that despise dogs), a bunny, a frog, a child, an adult, etc, etc.

Gonzo is selectively playful. He will act like a puppy with dogs that he has had time to get to know and dogs that he likes. He will act like a completely serious disciplinarian with dogs that he doesn't like. He does NOT play with any other animals, he considers them livestock! teehee. He rarely plays with other people (besides frisbee and fetch, of course) except me.

My guys don't have very big play drives, and they're not really silly. Marlowe 99% of the time is serious as a heart attack. Everything he does is dead. serious. Even if that thing is finding the softest spot on the couch and arranging his blankets just so, it's serious business. Conrad is a very serious dog as well and has some anxiety and fear issues that make it hard for him to let his guard down enough to be really silly.

As a result, when they play together things can get a little weird. They may start out with the play bows and the silliness, but that does not last very long and pretty soon it's roar-barks and mohawks. They've never gone from playing to fighting (their only fights have been as a result of Conrad's resource-guarding), but I usually have to stop them mid-play just because they make such a racket at each other I'm afraid the neighbors are going to think I have vicious fighting dogs.

Scooby is playing or sleeping but we'd expect that at his age.

My Parents Airedale Sally is 7 and a complete nut she loves playing with Scooby

My Best Friends Springer is 4 and while he will play with people he completely ignores other dogs. If he visits us or we visit him he's never mean he just doesn't acknowledge Scooby exists.

Jack was a goofball up until the day he was put to sleep. He had the mind of a 6 month old and the body of a 13 year old the only reason he didn't play was he couldn't.

Tara is just a playful sweetheart even at 10 years of age. Most people think she's 3 at the most. And she's the one that plays with the youngest Jewels whose 1 and still does all the crazy puppy stuff. She however is starting to show a protective streak.

Copper is an old guy now though he still has his playful moments. He used to flip easily between serious watch dog and goofy dork chasing after socks I'd throw.

Zoey...is like an aloof cat in a dogs body. She likes to explore and go on walks but I've never seen her do much in terms of play.

Millie's generally a serious dog. She does lighten up, though, and has a bright, silly side sometimes. It takes her a while to come out of her shell enough to really play with dogs she doesn't know, though.
Lucy. . .well, Lucy is hardly ever serious. She's the biggest goof!

Sarama is plenty playful, but she's not one of those dogs who will drive you bats until you play with her. She's happy enough playing by herself (she'll throw things in the air and chase them) or happily chewing away on a chewie or a squeaky. She's only a year, so I suspect she won't be a big player when she's older. She does love to fetch things though (or go get them, we're working on the bring them back part . . . some times she does, and sometimes she doesn't . . . so I only tell her to "fetch" if I think she'll bring it back . . .otherwise I just throw it)

Very playful. Like, all the time playful. Never not playful. Everything is a game. He's a total clown. Even when we're "working" he's flopping around being goofy. He's never, ever, ever not playful. His tail wags in his sleep. He gets up, grabs a toy, and it's play play play play all day until bedtime.

Bimmer is fairly serious most of the time, but he will play join in if I have Shiva and Kharma together and they're wrestling.

Kharma can be very playful . . . but no one is ever quite sure if she's playing or not and even Shiva isn't willing to risk it most of the time, especially since one of her favorite games is STALKING

Buster is so serious all the time, then every once in a while, usually when all the other dogs are away in another room he gets the zoomies really bad. "go, go, go, go!" makes him do his happy run and if you stir him up by blowing in his face, giving him a toy and running around he goes completley nuts, its the cutest thing I've ever seen.

its 50/50 with Blaze. for the most part in the house he just sleeps. If I get him up and blow in his face it is total play time running like a mad man around the house. grabbing a stuffed toy then I will throw it for him until he grows tired of the game and goes back to laying around.

get him outside and all it is is play play play. chase a dg, chase a ball, chase his own shadow ect lol

Drop a bread crumb 50 feet from him outside, its back to 250% seriousness lol

Lizzie sounds like your Eve, Grace. She's a very serious dog, but loves her play time and is a total puppy at those times. I suspect she'd play a lot more if Major wasn't so old.

I am Dumb

Mispost!!! Sorry.

My husky has only recently started being playful. He's actually started bringing his toys over to play fetch, which is exciting. It took us a long time to get him interested.
