Just some idle curiosity. When your dog needs to go outside for a potty break, how does he/she ask?

All my previous dogs have barked at the door. Zeus and Voodoo are special, though. I get a nose nudge if I'm busy, or a head laid in my lap if I'm sitting down. The nudge also includes a madly wagging tail and that hard stare, as if they're trying to will me to open the door. If I'm asleep, they'll paw the bed and wake me up, then proceed to the zombie stare.

Quinn doesn't ask unless she really, really has to go out which is nice. When she's bored/has to pee really bad though she comes up to me, sits down really hard and fast, and just stares at me for a few moments. If I get up then, she'll run downstairs, looking back a few times to make sure I'm following. If I ignore her (which I sometimes do just to see what she'll do), first her tail starts wagging and she'll scoot forward an inch or two. She might do a couple little whines. Then she'll almost-bark at me - looks like a bark, but no sound comes out - she just snaps her jaws. If I STILL ignore her she'll really gingerly put her front paws on my lap.

I get very much the same thing from Tallulah that you get from yours, Gem :D The nose noodge gets increasingly firm with repetition, lol. And then when I ask, "do you want out?" you should see the gyrations, Nijinsky-esque leaps, pirouettes, running to the door and hitting it with her paws, then running back to me and hitting me with her paws . . .

The other two give me a nudge then go walk to the door. Sometimes Bimmer will sing softly or Kharma will yargle.

Victor stares at me. I ask him what he wants, and he either runs to the kitchen or the door. Pepper comes up behind me and says gruuuffffff very low and quiet. SO I ask her the same question and she does the same thing Victor does.

She sits by the back door and stares at it, willing it to open. If we ignore her, she will bark.

She used to jump up on the back door, and then arch her nails so they go right into the wood around it and scratch it all the way down. Had to stop that quick, landlord would not have been impressed

I had to work on the nose bumping with Tallulah, lol. She was a bit . . . zealous . . . for awhile. It took a combination of working on what was an acceptable level of force and her maturing. Frankly, I think the maturation had as much to do with it as anything I did. She's learned to be more aware and understands her own strength much better.

Duncan goes right out after Cameron, either that or the next time I go out into the kitchen he will charge the back door as if to say "RIGHT THIS VERY INSTANT!!!"

Cameron will stand in the dining room and give a cute little whimper. I'll say "wanna go out?" and she'll charge the back door.

There's a lot of flying tackles happening to that door.

Like Quinn, Roman only asks when he *really* has to go. He'll run to me and then to the door and back and forth with increasing speed and some nose nudges until I notice, then he stares and if I move he kinda leaps toward the door (still watching me) and then when I get up he runs to the door and spins/paces around until I open it lol.

I've never seen Maisy ask to go out. Pip almost never asks to go out, when he does he just gets really whiny.

Squash will sometimes trot over to the door, trot back and stare at us, and just keep repeating until we get it. Or sometimes he will sit down in this one particular spot between the couch and the door and just STARE at us. Also, if he starts acting exceptionally naughty, 9/10 times he has to poop. That is, if he's full of it... he's full of it. :D

Gavroche doesn't ask. Sometimes if he REALLY has to go (diarrhea) and I'm sleeping he's stand up and stare at me. I don't know how long this goes on before I wake up. I really wish he'd ask in a more noticeable way.

Logan will run back and forth from the nearest person to the back door. He totally takes advantage of my mom because she'll let him outside for even the slightest pace, whine or bark :wall: But he rarely asks me to go out because they go out regularly anyway.

Mine only ask if it's an emergency, which is pretty rare. But they all do pretty much the same thing. Stare at me, nudge me with their nose, then maybe whine a little. If Boone reaaaally has to pee, he will bounce around in circles by the door.

LOL Bobsie Roo Roo's at me and Doom sticks his face right in my face and makes a very small "ruff" sound. If I tell them they have to wait a minute, it becomes a licking war. >.<

Stand at the door. Juno will eventually start whining if no one notices her. But she does this any time she wants to go outside, whether she has to potty or not lol.
Lucy doesn't really ask to go out. Which is annoying.

If its during the middle of the night and they really really have to go, both will start whining and making all sorts of noises to wake me up.

Tynan whines (which is ironic since he's always whining) or stands by the door and nudges at the leashes. Timber & Dallas will pace around and Lincoln will stick his face in yours and stare. Hank won't let you know so I take him out often to avoid him peeing on the house.

Nose nudges and a bright-eyed stare, if that doesn't work, a small 'wuff' (more air escaping than an actual bark). At night, Riley will nudge the bed, then shake his head so his ears flap - he rarely has to go out in the middle of the night, so that noise wakes me up pronto - especially when he reinforced the command by peeing on the carpet when I didn't get up fast enough.

Sam whines, he isn't usually much of a barker. He only barks when he's asking to come back in. He will whine at the door, or stand there and stare at us. If we aren't near the door then he'll come and find us. We ask him what and she leads us to what he wants. If it's night time and he really has to go then he cries at my bedroom door (he sleeps in my room, but the door has to stay shut to keep the cats out and away from the fish and hamsters) until I get up.
