Do you guys think that dogs know when you are giving them a kiss, that it is a actual kiss? I always give Kiana and RB kisses in their nose, but always wonder if they know I'm giving them a kiss.

Oh Gawd! Those french kisses are nasty!!! Especially when you have a dog who likes poopsicles. You don't know how many times I've had to wash my mouth out with soap.:yikes:

When I give her a peck on the top of the head or something like that, I think Xena knows that it's affection and not that I'm about to eat her. She usually follows with her type of kiss (often aggressively "kissing" my head). I still think she's trying to get to the tootsie roll center.

Fozzie ONLY does nose-to-mouth kisses. He is not into tongue. :p So... I think he knows.

Gonzo, on the other hand, is difficult to kiss without getting slipped the tongue. I'm sure they know it's a sign of affection either way. They poke/nuzzle each other all of the time.

I think so! Milo will nuzzle my face after I kiss him and seems to really enjoy it.

Even my mom's dog who we've labeled autistic and has no social prowess with animals or humans, wags his nub when you kiss his nose.

I think they know. I think it is universal epsecially after seeing that video of the kitten and the fawn that Grammy sent me. If that wasn't a good night kiss that fawn gave the kitten i will eat my hat.

i terms of nuzzling it is a natural wolf behaviour, all in the pack will nuzzle, lick and snuggle in affection...

in terms of my dogs...
kiss kiss to dodger = him waggin his tail turning his head and grumbling/talking to you...i dont know if he thinks its some kind of game, but hes all talk about it

kiss kiss to vixie = her returning the favor by obsessivly licking you for the next 5 hours!

kiss kiss to ruby = she will turn her head to the side and lean in for more kisses (she likes to be smooched on the cheek) while she closes her eyes and simply SMILES...
but cresties have a unique personality type and i swear there alien beings with higher cognitive capabilities than many other dog breeds in terms of understanding humans...
I sweat in her head shes saying "yes, go ahead, adore me!"

you know how some dogs give you that look like there clueless...
and other dogs give you that look like YOUR clueless...
cresties give you that look that says "good human now sit pretty" lol.
