Strikes again..

Another one turned up yesterday..

What is it with me and cats? I seem to attract all the lost and unfortunate cats for miles around..

He is by far the BIGGEST cat I have ever seen.. He's obviously a stray, he's all matted and skanky, and I can't really get too near him, although I did manage a little pet on the head last night..

I can't possibly let him in, I already have 4, I can't have 5 cats.. It's getting ridiculous..

He's obviously looking for shelter against the cold, so I gave him an old sheepskin lined coat to make a nest in, and I have fed him, and now Monsieur is curled up in his sheepskin coat on my kitchen windowledge, it actually makes quite a snug bed at night when I shut the shutters to..

So "Arnie" as I have nicknamed him, is living on my windowledge, and I am feeding him..

What is with me, I really am a freaky cat woman!! :yikes:

Awwwwww......:D

your not a freaky cat lady ;)
I so am! I don't know anyone else that get stalked by stray cats.. My mum says I am like the Pied Piper to cats..

It's true that even the most unsociable of cats love me.. I will go round peoples houses, and they will say that their cat never sits on their laps and isn't very affectionate, and within seconds of me sitting down, there will be a cat on my lap purring away.. It suprises people all the time.

You probably already know this, but just in case:

A quick simple solution to shield Arnie from the cold is to take a cardboard box, cut a 5-6" diameter hole in it, inches from the bottom so it won't get wet and "flood" when rain comes, wrap the whole thing up in a garbage bag to make it waterproof, and then line the bottom with your sheepskin coat... :)

You're like me - apparently my house is very inviting to strays. ;)

Good idea, but you might also want to add a 'back' door, if an escape is needed.

Welcome to the club! Nine feral cats have migrated into our house over the years and that's enough for now. My mother wound up with six house cats (five are black - her Black Cat brigade) and now she's feeding four more strays.

Well, we tend to get stray animals in general. The most recent one was that torbie kitten that appeared mysteriously in my garage. At our old house homing pidgeons would rest on our roof, and we would leave food and water out for them. They would drink a bit, eat a bit, and move on. And there was some HUGE cat that lived in the breezeway (room between house and garage for sitting outside) for three days, and then moved on.

Not to mention the poodle mix I found at Lake Brittle last year I took to FOHA (his owners claimed him three days later). And the mix breed dog (have no idea what in the world his mix was, something lab sized with a short coat) came to our old house and WOULD NOT LEAVE. We let him stay the night, and his owners were found the next day. There was the neighbor's golden retriever that got spooked by a coming storm and ended up in our yard. And the other neighbor's great pyrenees that got out of his fence twice and both times came to our old house!

Well it all came about because my previous neighbour had 11, yes 11 cats.. When she split up with her partner and promptly found another he said she could bring ONE cat and that was it, so what did she do? She left all the others to fend for themselves.. For the most part they weren't castrated or spayed, so of course they made MORE cats.. Our village is becoming over run with cats that are now semi feral, one of which has just had 4 kittens and is now pregnant again.

One of my neighbours called the SPA (Our version of the RSPCA / Humane society) because it really is starting to become a cat invasion around here, we have no mice or rats, but it's dreadful, there are half starved cats everywhere.. The woman who owns the little café almost opposite me puts out scraps, which just attracts more cats.. There were 15 on her terrace the other morning..

Now I don't agree with putting healthy cats to sleep, but what on earth are we going to do? This can't continue, it will end with diseases etc.. There is talk of the SPA coming down to euthanize all the cats that don't belong to someone because they are overrun with cats themselves and noone seems to want cats these days..

Just shows how one persons incredibly selfish attitude can really put everyone else into a bit of a bind.. I can't have 11 cats, but I can't stand by and watch them starve to death, especially as they have announced snow for the weekend..

It actually makes me sob thinking about all those poor cats which WERE used to sleeping in a warm house and eating regularly now out in the cold through no fault of their own..

She's a right madam, and if I get my hands on her, she will know exactly what I think, and I might have to punch her..

Oh god how sad... she just dumped them.

My mum had 28 cats at once years and years ago. She said most of them were kittens... only most of them were kittens because she didn't desex any of her cats back then.
They moved and they found homes for everyone of those kittens that they couldn't keep. If nothing else, they were in the world by then and they had homes found for them. I can't imagine dumping anything.

I know I'll have issues with containing the amount of cats I allow to walk into my life when I move out lol.

We have 23 cats, of course all are spayed and neutered and all are rescues. We have a major cat overpopulation in our city..there are lots of feral colonies (For the most part a lot of people including myself are working hard on getting them all altered and released).

5 cats is nothing! lol. 11 cats is nothing hehe ;)

BUT we also feed a the strays in our neighborhood. We tend to get new ones quiet often, since they know where to go. I would say we feed about 6 strays we know of and have seen, but I am sure there are more. The HUGE bowl we leave out on the porch is usually gone within a few days..so there has to be a lot of strays coming and going.

I'm suddenly reminded of this toy...

:rofl1:

The first time I saw this, by the way, was in a store called "The Cat's Meow" which sells strictly cat stuff... so cool!

Off-topic, but do you have any advice on keeping raccoons away from the food bowls outside? Now that they have "discovered" the cat food I leave outside for the stray, they've been eating everything up. I'm not even sure if the cat is getting his share of food anymore.

We don't have raccoons near my house so I can't help you out with that! I think any repellent type products would keep the cat away as well. I honestly don't even know what would keep a Raccoon away, but still allow the cat to come.

The only other animals other than cats that eat the food on my front porch are blue jays lol. They actually go on my porch, and take food from the bowl and then fly off. Its a little family of jays that live in this hole on the side of my neighbor's house. They don't take a lot though, so I guess its not biggy. I have been keeping a bowl of "Small animal food" (The crappy seed with the corn, and whatnot kind),. bread, and crackers in a bowl on a table near the cat food dish for them to get as well. I just don't want the cats trying to eat that stuff.

You can either adjust the cat's feeding schedule to daylight hours (my mother feeds her strays in the morning) and then take up the food; or what we do with our barn cats, bribe the raccoons with cheap dog food in another spot. We also take up the food after the barn cats have finished eating.

Louie, wouldn't the SPA do spay/neuters and release? At least on the healthy ones that were feral? The ones that weren't feral might be rehomed after S/N?
Sadly no.. They aren't government funded in any way, so all their funds come from donations, it would cost a fortune to spay all these cats.. And I very much doubt any of the vets round here would give their time for nothing sadly.. :(
