Jude's brother Francis will be here in about 4 weeks and I'm super excited!

It has been a bit stressful of an experience, I was supposed to be getting the gold boy in the litter but due to some issues, this guy is probably going to be my guy. There were 2 merle boys and 1 gold boy and knowing I wanted a boy, my options were limited. I wouldn't say I'm traditionally a merle lover... but I think I may end up as one after seeing this little guy. I think he'll "look nice" with Jude- haha- and he's just so adorable and fluffy. I'm warming up to the thought.

Plus I think Frankie is such a funny nickname for a little merle boy... I feel like merle is kind of flashy in border collies so I like to think of him as my little flashy italian (think flashy jersey shore 'guidos') boy Frankie.

I believe he's on the right? The other is his brother.

He's almost 4 weeks old.

Pretty! I thought he was gonna be gold coloured?
LOL I was about to say did you not read what she wrote.... but apparently she deleted it all :p

Basically, it said that there was some issues and it looks like she will be getting the merle boy instead

He is so pretty and cuddly and cute!

Awwww, so you are getting one of the blues? Is he regular blue merle or dilute too? Just curious he looks really light colored.

I bet you're on pins and needles! :D

Fixed it! :) Thanks! You think hes cute even tho he's not my top choice color? Haha I feel so silly worrying about it... but then again, I cried when jude was born a tricolor since I wanted a traditional BC (yes... silly.. I know. I was a bit emotional since my 15 year old dog had just passed I think haha) and I love his look now, so I'm trying to reassure myself.

Hey Lauren,

Just sent you a PM btw with a few more pics. Curious to hear what you think.

He's not a blue merle- more of a lighter merle... he'll be more grayish... probably not as merley as like Steve on here if I understand correctly.

He has the same Dad as Jude, so I think they'll end up looking pretty similarly in face and body.

Just caught up! :D I'm really anxious to see how the color comes out. I bet it will be a very soft and pretty.

And yes, I think he's handsome as can be. ;)

He's so incredibly CUTE! I know that you wanted the gold, but really, how could you resist this little fluff-thing? Frankie is an excellent name. He is not, however, going to be a guido dog. Guidos wear gold chains and wife-beater undershirts and they have massive, ornate bedroom furniture heavily carved with eagles or pineapples. Or possibly both. (I know; I grew up around people like this.) Your puppy will be far more elegant. You can tell by that cute little tail. Awwwwwww.

I think he's just darling. I can't tell if he's merle or just a steel blue color, but either way he's beautiful.

Thanks guys!! :)

His father is a merle (a merle but is actually gold which masks the merle) so his father always has merle puppies- most of Jude's siblings were merle too.

I'm having a hard time knowing what kind of merle he is tho.. I think he's still considered blue merle? He's definitely got the spots (although they typically get darker I think as he gets older) but he isn't that real marbled look... I'm not sure what he falls under. He could be a sabled merle since his father has had a lot of past puppies like that (I'm kind of hoping he isn't...) but it's hard to tell at such a young age. I'm having a hard time finding other dogs that look like him on the internet- keep looking for pictures.

He's a blue merle. ;) Merling is the grey color; if he didn't have the merle modifier, he'd be a black and white BC. As it is, he has a TON of merling and very little base color popping through. I'll be really interested to see if he stays the lighter merle or if it'll darken up into more of a steel or gunmetal shade.

YAY another merle monster! :D

Actually I think he might be blue if he wasn't merle. He really looks slate merle to me instead of blue.

The term is "blue" merle because he's doesn't have a red base. There aren't varying degrees to describe it, unless you're talking about a collie that has "sable" merle.

I'd think he'd be more of a "true" blue if he didn't have that big black swatch on his flank and the patches on his legs. I want to see closer up pictures of all of him, because in those shots that he's being held and you can't see anything besides his head and shoulders, then yes, he does look straight blue. However, if he was a "true blue" and merle on top of that, I think you'd still be able to see it, as I'm fairly certain the merling would end up in the "powder" range instead of the steel. He could also end up looking totally different as he loses his puppy coat!

Slate is blue merle with a blue base instead of black. ;) It's dilute and merle. Not sure what it's called in every breed, breeds often are wonky more often than not in that no one ever uses the same terminology.

blue merle is a black base
slate merle is a blue base (dilute black)

That said I can't tell which he is. He just looks all blue to me and I've seen older half? siblings that look slate to me too.
