For starters, the Boerbel doesn't have ojeriza ;)

The ones I have met (these were well bred dogs) tended to be a little shorter and stockier. They aren't as quick or agile, being built more on a square.

Boerbels are excellent guardians, good family dogs but need a responsible, confident, strong willed and intelligent owner -- much like a Fila. They are more straight-forward in character, share a high intelligence, but without the cunning (or as some would say, devious) streak, a little less self-determined and independent minded, although still much more so than a Lab, Doberman, GSD, etc.

Overall, I've liked the ones I've met very much, they did, though, lack a little edge and the uber-extreme bonding that living with Filas has got me addicted to. If I hadn't ever seen a Fila, I'd probably be very happy with a Boerbel. :)

what are filas like to train i have a boerboel love her to death she is a wonderful dog she is so smart and a delight to train though can be a bit stubborn but nothing crazy
i would love to hear about just exactly how independent filas can be and how sneaky they are i was a bit surprised how independent boels can be as well esp as puppies bonding with a boerboel at least with mine has to be earned are filas like that?
i think when it comes to agility boerboels can surprise people some of the mispah dogs are just plain amazing but a boerboels form is not set it can vary quite a bit not all boerboels are created equal i would love to hear how agile filas really are you look at them and that is not a trait i would think goes with the breed
lol i am glad boerboels do not have ojeriza

Kharma is easily more agile than my little APBT :) Think faster than a Doberman, too. Filas -- REAL Filas -- are best described as "sudden." There's nothing quite like it.

Training? Let's put it this way, no true Fila will ever win an obedience title -- unless it's out of spite :rofl1: If you prefer talking to your dog over traditional training, you'll like dealing with a Fila. Be prepared, though, for your Fila to tell you to chill out, that she/he's doing something important and they'll get back to you :D

The Fila spine is more supple -- almost feline, and those big tall hips provide extra explosive speed -- again, more like a cat -- and the ability to cut and change directions quicker as well.

Oh, and then there's that Fila warped sense of humor ;)

Filarotten once caught Brutus driving around the yard in her granddaughter's battery-powered Jeep, with his Pitbull buddy in the passenger's seat :rofl1:

Kharma has the exact tail wag trajectory calculated, along with the perfect velocity to flick Charley in the nuts hard enough to double him over.

Don't ever underestimate a well bred, true to type Boerboel. You don't even want to know what they were originally bred for here. They are very very sharp, can be raging strong and you do not want to mess with one if you have attracted his unfavorable attention.
I have been lucky to have grown up in their country of origin. The ones on farms, bred from working lines are not at all watered down and are a lot of dog.

I've been fortunate enough to meet a couple of Boerbels out of imported working dogs. They were spectacular, and, as I said earlier, if I hadn't lived with Filas, might very well have gone that way :)

I will have to say that one of the things (aside from the peerless ability to work wild cattle) that originally cinched the choice of Fila was the relatively benign attitude toward other dogs and their natural propensity to work WITH other household dogs.

no a boerboel is nothing to underestimate depending on the bloodlines you are dealing with they easily clear 6 foot fences biddable enough to work cattle and a just amazing dog all around and no i would never be stupid enough to try to walk on to a property with a strange boerboel on it lol
i have no doubt both breeds can do there jobs and do it well they are both fantastic breeds this to is also the first site i know that really has alot of fila enthusiasts here that has more to say then they are just killers blah blah and can give a wonderful insight about there mentalities both good and bad which is what i am really interested in

thats the one thing i dont like about boerboels the fact that many do not work well with other dogs ok honestly i think its a horrible shame has anyone looked at some of the mizpah films i think thats the way it should be lucas merwe has a whole pack of them running around together you can also see it with the coomore dogs but thats just not typical now a days with many breeders

What too many don't give their Filas a chance to show is their phenomenal adaptability. They have the intelligence and mental elasticity to live in the modern world without being kept behind locked doors, never venturing off of their home turf, but it takes dedication on the part of the owner. You MUST let the Fila experience and learn to discern the nuances of life and the differences between normal human behavior and *off* or threatening behavior, between a normal environment and a tense one, and how to pinpoint where the tension originates. They CAN learn this, for the most part, although there will be, as with any breed, dogs that aren't ever going to be comfortable -- or even safe -- away from the home environment.

But these dogs are that intelligent and able to adapt, for the most part, and if we Fila owners don't recognize that and continue the badass dog bullshit, we're going to find we've put our breed into the same -- or worse -- plight as the APBT.

i worry quite a bit about the reputation of boerboels. this breed is just coming into its own there are so many breeders that just want to slap two dogs together and get a litter out to sell as many litters as possible. we are going to be hearing alot more about boerboels in the future and some of it is not going to be good. i think filas and boels could be in alot of trouble if owners and breeders dont get our acts together.
what amazes me about these dogs is the ability to read people, i had a friend come over and i did not realize it but he was very scared of my puppy. he was posing when i brought her out to met him. well my puppy caught on to it immediately and refused to come up to him and she is usually very friendly and a very well socialized dog.we are out meeting people everyday. we worked it out of course after i told my friend to chill out a little bit. but you can not lie to these dogs they read body language as if they were born to it which quite frankly they probley are.

I'd love to meet a good Boerbol some day; I've met Renee's Kharma and she's just a brilliant dog, in every sense of the word.

But you are spot on when you say these breeds are potentially in danger; too many people want big, fearsome dogs for all the wrong reasons and as more cities outlaw bully breeds, they're going to look for other dogs. Everyone needs to work to keep their breeds safe and out of the public eye!

Zoom, there's a Boerbel breeder there in CO with an EXCELLENT reputation. I've met one of her dogs. The guy who transported Cleo travels with a beautiful little bitch she gave him. He does a lot of transports for her.

The name of the kennel is SplitRock Boerboels-that is her website. The email is-<[email protected]>. I really like her philosphy for breeding her dogs. I honestly think when I am older and need to go to a little smaller dog, I will really give the Boerboels very strong consideration. They are too adorable to pass up.

I had Titus with me in Petco yesterday. The man behind me thought he might be a Boerboel. We talked about Filas and Boerboels for a few minutes, and he said he was looking for a good breeder, so I recommended SplitRock to him also.

Of course, if you love the Boerboels you should try on a Fila for size. Just have a very good sense of humor...;) and take lots of pictures for us.
