until Midget came, I never owned a dog with a docked tail. I have friends that have some(rotties, boxers, pem, etc) but being that I would only see them for play dates, I never really got the "feel" of a docked breed dog.

As much as I hate the thought of them having to have their tails nipped, I must say there are several advantages to the docked tail. I dont' have to worry about closing it in the door when we're going out, I don't get hit with it(I often find bruises on my thighs and I SWEAR they're from keeda's tail), I don't accidentally step on it when he's laying on the floor. I'm sure if I sat her long enough I could come up with more reasons.

.... I don't think Midget could even knock something off the table with his nose... that's a little to high for having no legs... LOL.

Oh, I really appreciate Kharma's tail. It's strong, it's whip-like, but has motions that are very cat-like. It's neat to watch the tip of it twitch in her sleep like a cat's.

But the neatest thing of all? Sometimes, when we're at the store, and Charlie lets boisterous, crotch-sniffing Shiva out because a customer wants to see the dogs, but slams the door in Kharma's face, when he comes back in, she feigns being happy to see him and flips him in the nuts with that tail . . . HARD. :rofl1:

I like Xena's tail. She just wouldn't be the same dog without it.

I'm fine with dogs that are docked if that's the breed standard, though.

I like docked tails for the lack of coffee-table-clearage.

I like full tails for how expressive and unique they are.

i like docked tails on dogs that are supposed to be docked and it definatly has some advantages (particularly coffe table clearnace and lack of leg bruises (i looked after an undocked boxer and had HUGE bruises on my shins from him manic tail wagging lol)
but at the same time, i dont think i could get personaly involved with breeding a docked breed because i couldnt do tails lol. (most breeders do their own at the same time dewclaws are done, its considered relitivly "painless" at 3 days old..., but still it makes me twinge a little, i still wont do my own pups dew claws lol.)

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE docked tails. Maybe part of the reason was that I LOVED my Doberman so much. His little stub was soooooo expressive. People that never had a docked tailed dog often think that you can't "read" them. WRONG! Lyric's little stub would go a mile a minute....very brisk and if he was just beginning to be amused about something, you could see it begin to "warm up"...just a little, slow wag, sometimes just one or two wags and it would pause. It was the cutest little thing. And humorous! I even wrote a silly poem about his tail when I lost him.

That Dober Tail

A mile a minute it would go,
That Dober stub of a tail,
It didn’t sway in easy flow,
But things stayed on the table.

How expressive, that Dober tail,
Inside his mind I’d know,
Humor abounded without fail,
Back and forth, that Dober tail,
Wish he didn’t go.

That's what I was getting at, I suppose. I love to see Xena's tail start to thump when I come in. Sometimes if she's laying in a chair and I come into the room, she'll stay laying there, but her eyes light up and the tail thumps up and down.

I can go either way. I mean if I get a poodle (well when I do get another poodle) the tail will be docked.

if my boyfriend gets his way and gets his rottie or doge, it will be docked.

I do like the look of a full tail. Blazes tail looks so nice when its all brushed out and blowing int he wind. I was sick with heat break when he cut the tip of it off, and the vet said we will probably have to amputate his tail. Luckily that was not the case and it healed.

Aussies are both docked and naturally bob-tailed, so yes, I do. And nubbies really are expressive, more so than people think.

Wow, that's a difficult questing for me to answer. With some breeds I prefer the look with a docked tail, but with others I kind of like the natural tail. Take poodles as an example, the more I see them with tails the more I'm starting to prefer it.

I like tails. Bella's tail tells so much of her personality, I think much would be lost without it as it is a means for her to communicate to and with us. The same with the boys, but Bella much more so on a higher level.

That said, I've never had a dog without a tail before and likely would not purposefully get a dog without a tail solely for the looks.

i like my dogs to have tails. i don't really care what the breed standard says. i've held too many screaming puppies while they've had their tails cut off. painless. yeah right.

Dekka's tail vibrates, as well as wags lol.

I don't really have a preference for or against.

BUT i do like dogs with docked tails as all my JRTs have docked tails. (and I like them very much!)

I like both natural and docked tails. My mom's cocker mix has a docked tail, and it is very cute and still very expressive. She did have her dew claws removed at the same time.

I don't really a preference. Except in dobes and corgis. I don't much like the doberman full tail and a corgi with a tail is the wrong kind of corgi :p

You'd be surprised ;)

Yuppers! My corgis' tails are very full of expression.
