I have to disagree Grammy (sorry, cant cut and paste a quote on this computer)! A heart breed is a breed that you wouldnt live without. It is the breed that is most suited for you. The breed you cant see yourself not ever having. Yes, heart dogs are individuals, but there are Breeds that people are attracted to. This is not sopost to be a thread of "what dog do you want to own". We have done those. This is a thread asking if you have found "your breed".
Why do you have to get all aggitated about it anyways?

Yep I agree... there can be breeds that are heart breeds.
Yorkies are so much fun, they have this crazy personality probably from the terrier in them and they are 100% DOG... they are just so busy all the time... and the sense of humor they have is amazing. I will never be without one.
But my heart dog was a Sheltie.... so I don't know. But Border Collies as a breed have my heart way more than the Sheltie breed. I'd own a bajillion of both in a heartbeat though.

Heh, that's me though I've yet to actually own a bc...
My heart dog was a sheltie, but the breed isn't 'my' breed. I love the breed, and I wouldn't be opposed to more. I just am not drawn to it despite how awesome Nikki was.
I think you can have more than one breed, but you do know when you've found your breed. My thoughts about the papillon breed are very different than shelties, though I've had shelties a lot longer. Shelties are good, but papillons are just perfect in my eyes.

That's me with Beagles. They are a breed, growing up, that I never thought I'd own. Then I got one, and despite the array of breeds I own, have owned, and have fostered, Beagles just sit in a special place in my heart. Everything about them just make them so perfect to me.
But I also have a special place for the dachshund breed too, especially after owning the ones I have and seeing what characters they are. I can't see myself ever being without at least one dachshund in my home.
Granted, this is pretty much the only breed I've really had much interaction with. But, unless certain circumstances don't allow me to, I will always have a boxer.

Bubba was my heart dog , but the longer I have Ollie and he sees me through my senior years , he may take over !! But then ... I feel my heart dogs sent him to me !
*hugs* They did. Your heart dogs knew what you needed and they gave you Ollie. Bubba will always be a part of you, and your a big part in Ollie, so your all entwined.
I love tons of dogs for the dogs they are but I love the Border Collie breed for what they are. There are tons of breeds I am not overly fond of, yet I could enjoy the company of a dog that was of that breed.
Is that making any sense? Probably not. Im over tired right now.
Well, maybe. At this time there are several dogs here.
Six GSDs, one is on hold for sale to SC, one is still for sale.
One CS, neutered and adorable.
Two 'found' mix breeds, both extremely loveable.
I have to say, I'm a Labrador girl at heart (Augie is my second) but I would love to have a Corgi, preferably a Cardigan and may look into getting one in the nearish future if it would be a good fit with Augie and me. I'll have to research.
Other breeds I'm very partial to are Rottweilers, Basset Hounds, Beagles, PBT's, and most any of the giant breeds, though I don't think I could cope with the heartbreak of their short life span. I would also LOVE to have a Briard, though the grooming requirements would probably be a bit daunting for me. I'm used to "wash and wear" breeds
