education is not something that you have to do through the ages 5-18, you can do it later on in life
But honestly...how many people are going to do this??
Not many.

Teenage mothers are more likely to drop out of school and only about one-third obtain a high school diploma.
And I feel that if we leave these teen mothers with a job and a baby and nothing else they will turn to drugs and alcohol. BUT the ones who do make the effort in continuing their education are the ones who do need a real hand. They are TRYING! Im willing to give a hand if they are willing to help themselves along also. They should be the ones to stay off drugs so our tax money doesnt go to clean needles for the crack headed mother living in the meth house because she cant afford a decent place because she has no education so shes working at McDonalds flipping hamburgers for 5.50 and hour or turning tricks on the corner because McDonalds only wants to hire highschool kids!!!!!!!!

Ummm I was not influenced by America to have sex. I was influenced by ONE SINGLE boy and me not having much willpower to of said no. I'm not going to blame America for my choices.

If anything, America has been telling me to 'wait for sex' as long as I can remember. Just like its been telling me to be drug-free since elementary school........but umm I still smoked weed? America is NOT to blame.

Being gay is all over America too, but I'm not gay. I wasn't influenced by America for any of my choices, sorry.

Do you really know how much daycare costs?????

The younger the child the more it is.
Its about 200-300+ a week.
A non high school grad on min wage working full time could NEVER afford this along with the other costs.
Im not saying it should be free but alot of yall sound like youre saying
'Ah, we dont care about what happens to future america...KICK THEM OUT ON THEIR A**ES!!! They are the dumb ones who couldnt keep their legs closed!'

Well exuse me. I hope everyone of yall who are saying something to the effect of this all waited till you were married to have sex. Things happen. Thats reality.
and I hope your kids dont end up prego in highschool!

BUT then again its just your opinion..
Generally speaking:

EXCUSE ME. But you are not allowed to come down on us because you had a kid when you were just a kid yourself. I don't get why I should have to pay for your mistakes. It is not my fault that teenagers go out, make bad decisions and get themselves pregnant. I shouldn't have to pay for their mistakes. I am all for helping, I really am, but you have to want to help yourself and work for the help that people offer.

I worked in high school. I never had things given to me just because. I've worked hard for every single thing in my life and it should be the same for everyone else. There are people that fight for what they want in life and make the right choices and hold themselves accountable for their own decisions. And yeah, while we're at it, I saved myself for my husband.. and look where it got me... STABILITY, CAREER, LOVE, and RESPONSIBILITY for my OWN ACTIONS. Imagine that! Reality is that you are in charge of yourselves.. you make your own decisions... it was YOUR decision to have sex and not be responsible about it...and it was my decision to put my studies first, to engage in school activities, to go to college, to go to graduate school and to save myself for marriage. I don't regret one thing.

And I've made plenty of mistakes in my life..and ones I have paid dearly for.. but *I* have paid for them.. and no one else.. it is no one else's responsibility but my own. AS IT SHOULD BE.

Well that's THEM. Stats don't speak for EVERYONE. People turn to drugs and alcohol with or without an education.

And yall keep stating 'Make the the bed you lie in' Well I think Americas doing just that. We are promopting teen sex all over the place..
When this stops (and other things) then I think you can bitch about teen pregnancy.
Uhh, I grew up in America, too. I didn't have sex as a teen. It was happening all around me, I had been pressured and I said no. There are ads for condoms and birth control... and alcohol and cigarettes, I don't do those things either. So there goes that logic, right out the window.

have you ever tried to get more than a minimum wage job? it's really quite easy. I've never made minimum wage in my life, including during high school.

Very much so agree! :hail:

Oh... and I just wanted to add..
I didn't wait until marriage to have sex... I didn't sleep around, but I was in committed relationships before and wanted to have sex. I had no problem to talk with my mom about BC and was quite educated when it came down to that. Like I said... if teens want to have sex... they WILL have sex... it just depends if they do it smart or not.

YOu're right on that, we are making the bed we're going to lay in. We keep making excuses for everyone for everything. Nothing is anybody's fault anymore, and everyone looks to everyone else to pay for things because life just isn't fair.

A little clarification because I was told my thoughts were confusing ;) ....

I know there are many, many government assisted programs out there.. I already pay for them.. fine. But do we really need more? It is not my fault there is abuse of the systems we have. 20-30% gets taken out of MY paycheck to go to someone else, how much more can be taken out before I get my hackles up? You want daycares in schools.. fine... the moms and dads need to work in them to pay for it. That's all I'm saying. I like to help people who want and try to help themselves... but I don't feel one bit for the people that cry woe is me and don't life a finger.. welcome to the real world, its harsh and it's unfair and personal responsibility is integral. ;)

BP - one of my favorite quotes of all time goes like this:

"If you think the world owes you a living, you may die trying to collect the debt."

I don't recall who said it.

BP, the huge, vast majority of what gets taken out of your paycheck does not go to welfare recipients, the poor, or any other class of people who might need help. it goes to pay for defense, public services such as stockpiling gas, etc, roads, servicing our huge national debt, and a huge miscellany of things that hopefully are important to someone because they look really stupid to you and me.

Woo hoo! I (sort of) made somebodies signature :D
No, you totally did... it says, EDDIE SAID... see, you are so there. :D

I had another thought....

I had government assistance... for college. Both of my college degrees actually. But they come at a stiff price. Let me tell you, I'll be paying for my education for YEARS to come. But, the thing is, I'll be paying it back.

So, maybe we should have all of those people on government assistance pay back what the government (well, uhm, people) give them. Yes. That will teach responsibility right quick. You want government assistance? Good! It'll be a loan type thing, with interest and when you are back on your feet or what have you, you can work to pay that off. So, really, you work hard for yourself and the people (eventually) get their money back. Great idea!

Oh, I know this. But why should more be taken out of my hard-earned money to pay for someone else? This is my point. And there are government funded programs already available for people... so my question is, how much more do we *really* need? There are always going to be people in need.. no matter what, I realize this. And as I said, I will gladly help those that help themselves.. but I don't think taking more money from me to pay for another persons child care is the answer.

I know, I must be something really odd for managing through high school without sex... Anyways, I agree with BP.

One of my friends got pregnant junior year and she worked hard to have that baby. She had a tough time, but the way she handled herself was so admirable. She and her boyfriend BOTH paid for their baby's care and put effort into caring for the child.

Another of my friends was pregnant her sophomore year with baby number 5. I mean, really.... by this point you should have figured out birth control. She had all sorts of problems. Why should everyone have to pay for her mistakes? she only had three of the babies, but still.

At a point you have got to be responsible for your actions. Can't care for a child? Then be responsible! And yes, I think the fathers need more responsibility regarding the children. They were half the reason the child is here in the first place.

BUT then again its just your opinion..

You don't have to be married to take responsibility for your actions. If you CHOOSE to have sex outside of marraige you should be ready to take responsibility for your actions. NO teenager can tell me they didn't know that having sex often results in pregnancy, which results in a baby, which results in you being responsible for yourself, but for your child for the rest of your life.

You CHOSE to have sex, therefore you should not be begging others to provide childcare for YOUR child in which YOU and YOUR partner created. NO ONE else should be responsible.

And you can't say because the parents drop out of school the kids will too. It all depends on how the parents raised their children. My mom dropped out and got a GED and my dad had a high school diploma. My sister has a Bachelor's and Master's degree. I have a BA, thinking about going for my MBA. Because my parents emphasized the importance of having and education.

Also even having a Home ec class it is like 45 min a day, or 1.5 hours every other day. How does that provide an 8 hour daycare for teen moms to be in school all day?

But if a teenager gets behind the wheel drunk and gets in a car accident, should we say its ok. They were a kid they made a mistake? Or should they be repsonsible for what they did?

I don't have time to write more now....will check back in later....
