I gave Jack a raw frozen beef knuckle in his crate and was doing stuff around the house, peeking in at him periodically. The knuckle was getting a bit smaller but in a period of 20 minutes he got it from a smaller knuckle to a handful of knuckle chunks. He's never gone at one like that--usually it takes him forever.

He seems perfectly happy now, but should I be watching for something? Will his stomach be able to break it down?

OH no! I have no idea what will happen. My mother's irish setter choked to death on a nuckle bone. I pray your Jack will be able to pass it. Bones just scare me to pieces.

Yes please watch him! I don't want to scare you but my dog Brody had a knuckle bone and I was not watching him like I normally did and when I went to check on him it was gone except for crumbs. Well 24 hours later he could not go to the bathroom. We went to the vet with him and he had a blockage. He was in for seven days he is okay now but I have never given him another bone.

Watch him close for the next few days for vomiting and if he is straining to go but can't. Hopefully he will be okay!

If he had them down to small pieces chances are he will be fine. But just FYI this is why I never feed non edible bones.

I don't just because my guys TRY to eat them and Dekka has a chipped tooth from a rec (or wreck) bone that was a knuckle. And weight bearing bones are more dense and harder to digest.

They aren't bad as long as your dog doesn't break a tooth being over zealous, or actually does break them up and eat them lol.

The pieces that he had not gotten to when I found him were broken into chunks, so I don't think he's swallowed a giant piece of it. Sally is content to just gnaw for an hour and be done with it. Jack has never gotten through one this fast before (actually he hasn't gotten through one at all, I've taken them away long before he did)--I think he speeds up his process each time he gets one.....

It's possible. Mine with RMBs that are fully edible have gotten faster through practice of eating their food.

Dante did that the one and only time I gave him a knuckle bone. I swear it was all there and then 5 minutes later a big chunk was gone.

He had blow out diarrhea but no blockage.

Well, he pooped out some bone poop today. it seemed a bit dry and took a while for him to get it all out if you know what I mean. We bought him some canned food and soaked him kibble to get some extra moisture into his system. He seems fine otherwise though.

I have always been told if i thought the dog might have swallowed a bone to give them bread to help bind around it. Some of what i have been told might be old tales but i do it irregardless. IF i see the dog eat something out in the yard i don't know what was i do this. People often pitch their lunch right out the window around here and why they park in front of my house to stop and eat lunch. It is beside me why unless it is the view of the garden. Utility workers and delivery trucks alike park there.
