Controversial Issues

Ahhh, the age-old cropping debate. It's threads like these that show me how many people actually dislike my dogs. ;)

As for Dobermans/breeders/cropped ears/why didn't the breed just be created with erect ears.... it's a lot more complicated than that, but I don't expect everyone to have spent the same amount of time analyzing it to see how/why it's so complicated.

PS - sorry if the photo in my signature makes it so anyone can't bear to look at my response. #sorrynotsorry

I think you're overinterpreting and projecting. I dig it, I'm sure a lot of people get very nasty about cropping and docking, but nobody has said they dislike cropped/docked dogs or find them disgusting to look at or think people who crop/dock are worse than Hitler.

I think cropped ears look fake, and I really can't unsee that. #sorrynotsorry. I also think a lot of show cuts look ridiculous and I'm not a huge fan of merle. It doesn't mean I don't like dogs in those categories. Varied tastes are not a personal attack.

And if you're sick of people not understanding how complicated ear set is, why don't you try explaining it? You might be sick of it less often. ;)

YOU HATE MY DOGS SASS!!

I knew it. I knew you always hated Traveler and Didgie.

I don't know what's wrong with you all. Merle is awesome and amazing and the best.

I prefer the cropped/docked looks on the majority of breeds that practice it vs the natural look. To this day I still sometimes kick myself for not getting Stryder's ears done, though I love him and his giant dopey ears, he would've looked drop dead gorgeous with prick ears.

I don't like merle. I also don't like spots and really dislike mostly white dogs. And I don't like dogs with no tails.

Somewhere I went wrong.

I like some crops but others just kind of are icky looking to me. I think for me it is quality of the crop job. Bad crops really really bug me.

But I would never crop because it seems pointless to me. I also would never tape dog ears and the taped folded over look also looks weird to me too. And I can say that because Trey had those ears.

Everybody but Auggie's feelings are very hurt.

I don't care much about sheltie ear sets except on puppies, in which case prick ears make me twitch because WE CAN FIX THAT LET ME FIX THAT OH GOD

I tapped Panzer's ears for about 4 months. Take a look at my signature picture. It did him no harm and he has no ear sensitivities at all.

I hate showline GSD's and their stupid ugly backs and how they can't walk ever and have no drive and bite people all the time (Not bite suit people, other people) and are scared of everything cause they are ugly and stupid.

This! It makes me so sad when I see an 8 month old GSD puppy that can barely walk because his back is so sloped. And they all are so nervous and freaky! I once had a neighbor that had/has the two most beautiful GSD's. They both have/had great hips/elbows/backs and temperaments. Great watch dogs, but they would never hurt anyone. I think they were imported from Germany.

Ahahaha I glued ears on both my puppies (and Georgie.) I have no issues with gluing or taping ears. The only reason I quit with Auggie's was he hated having to sit still for it SO much and it was clear he wasn't going to be a confo dog, so I obliged and quit. Payton's ears were glued almost all the time until he was a year old. I don't have any problems with it - when I said "fix it" I meant let me glue the prick ears down to set them LOL.

I'm a cropper and always will be :) Now that I have the technique down, I have no qualms about doing it again for future dogs.

I don't want anything to do with an HA dog. I don't care if it's a high drive dog that was handled improperly while it was young, a resource guarder that never got proper training, whatever. I couldn't deal with it. I won't walk on eggshells around a dog. There's too many wonderful dogs out there, both mixes and purebreds, to waste time on a man biter.

She wasn't actual serious...

Originally it was meant to give them a long, easy stride length but some breeders have taken it to a pretty absurd extreme, yes.
