whats your APBT's name and do you have a piccy? (me luvs pics lol)

My girl's name is Loki. Her full name is UWP UCD 'PR' Matrix's I Defy Gravity CGC WDS.

Could you tell me a bit about he/she?

Well, she's a pretty quiet dog. She has her spurts of energy where she bombs around the house like a raving maniac, but its all in fun. She's always up for a good walk or playtime, though. She's very reliable with people, and is fascinated with children. She tolerates other dogs and has her own cat. Overall, she's the perfect dog for me.

Why did you pick the breed?

I like the versatility. There really isn't any other dog that can do all the things that an APBT can do, plus fit nicely in an apartment, plus put up with the maulings of young children, plus be sturdy enough to tolerate rough-housing. And you can't beat those wash-and-wear dogs.

Many people think that this breed is aggresive and has a bad image, what do you say about this?

I say behind every bad dog there is a bad owner. Maybe not criminally bad, but at the very least negligient. Maybe they just don't know how to handle a strong dog, or maybe they've got no idea what's on the end of their leash. A good APBT owner isn't going to tolerate human-aggression in their dogs, and they will know how to control the dog-aggression. They also understand the importance of keeping these dogs properly trained and restrained. Many owners aren't up to the challenge, and they leave the dog to its own devices and expect it to lay there and behave itself like a rug or a stuffed toy. They don't step into the role of alpha and teach the dog how to exist as part of the family unit. Then when the dog makes up its own rules, they think its a breed problem, rather than their own shortcomings.

would you pick this breed again and if so why?

There is no other breed for me. These dogs are my perfect dog. As long as I have what it takes to deal with the disdain and misunderstanding of others, I will always have an APBT.

finaly anything else you would like to say?

The folks supporting these breed laws are misguided. There have been dog bites and dog-related fatalities throughout history, in spite of the rise and fall of dog breeds. BSL (breed-specific legislation) is only good for breaking up families, and encouraging suspicion among friends and neghbors.

Thankys anyone

Booger, Tytus and J.D.

Could you tell me a bit about he/she?
They are the loves of my life. Booger has been paralyzed since she was 6 months old but you would never know she loves life to the fullest. The only thing that really bothers her about her disability is that she cant get up in our laps anymore. She is jsut a great inspiring dog that im glad is in my life even if it will only be for a short while.
Tytus is a goofy, friendly hulk of a lap dog. We got him at 3 months shy as can be and now he LOVES everyone and every dog. He loves to go for walks in teh woods and to hunt but by far his favorite thing in the world is laying in your lap on the couch sleeping.
J.D. is my pit bull that i had to give away to a friend years ago because of living issues now he lives on my friends farm as a pet and a worker. He herds the horses and cows in when its time to bring them in he protects them when no one is home and he is a faithful hunting companion. Everynight he alternates between the babies room and the 5 year olds room making sure everything is alright. He is the embodiment on the original Pit Bull breed.
Why did you pick the breed?
They really are goofy, smart, great companions and protectors and they LOVE farm life. They are up to any challenge and their happiest times are when they please their owners.
Many people think that this breed is aggresive and has a bad image, what do you say about this?
Its a load of crap! My dogs are the sweetest dogs Ive ever met. You are their best friend after just 5 minutes.
would you pick this breed again and if so why?
Yes i plan to breed them when i get my own place. I cant imagine my house without them. They are a great addition to any farm and hunters life. I could not imagine not coming home to the bully smile.

finaly anything else you would like to say?
I have had many dogs from little dogs to huge mastiffs and by far Pit Bulls are the only dogs I really connected with. AND of course they have a smile to die for.
Thankys anyone

I have pictures but I can't post them :(

I call Hades an APBT, but he's just a pit mix, perhaps a staff X APBT.

But I wanna play too :)

whats your APBT's name and do you have a piccy? (me luvs pics lol)
Hades

Could you tell me a bit about he/she?
He is 1 year and 3 months old. A sweetheart down to the very last hair on his body. He loves relaxing on the couch, he's kind of a couch potatoe, but as soon as we go out into the woods he's wild! He prefers to off road, off the trail, and he loves to run as fast as he can and dodge and duck all the brances and logs. It's his "thing". LOL

Why did you pick the breed?
I didn't exactly pick the breed. Hades sort of just fell into my hands.

Many people think that this breed is aggresive and has a bad image, what do you say about this?

So far Hades has shown no aggressive behaviours, dog on dog or dog on human. When it comes to Hades, if being labelled a teddy bear is a bad thing than so be it!

would you pick this breed again and if so why?
I unfortunately, would have to say no. It's sad but the government has defeated me on the issue. Besides, here in Ontario, all pitbulls are s/n so if I in anyway "acquired" another pitbull it would be considered illegal.

whats your APBT's name and do you have a piccy? (me luvs pics lol)

i have two.

Siren's Eleusinian Mystery CGC (Eleusis or Luce)

and Siren's Shiitake Happens (Mushroom)

Could you tell me a bit about he/she?

both are shelter dogs and about four years old, but beyond that they're polar opposites. luce is my bitchy girl. she's drivey, wild, energetic, smart as a whip, aims to please only herself. mushroom is my sweet, gentle, cuddly boy. he gets worried a lot.

Why did you pick the breed?

i fell in love with pit bulls when i was working kennels during college. i love their spirit, their enthusiasm, their zest for life, and their ridiculous social-butterfly-ness. when it came time to seriously evaluate what kind of dog i wanted, i chose them particularly for their medium size, athleticism, intelligence, and because they're spunky.

Many people think that this breed is aggresive and has a bad image, what do you say about this?

they're dog-aggressive for sure, and i think it's dangerous to ignore that, but they are so much more than the aggression that's plastered all over the news. i think a lot of the "pit bull problem" has been media-generated, and now it's a horrible, never-ending cycle.

would you pick this breed again and if so why?

probably, though i think my next dog will be a different breed. variety is the spice of life and all. i love these dogs. i love this breed. i know that i am a good and responsible owner, that i'm willing to put the time, effort, and training into these dogs that they need, and while so very very many are landing in shelters every day, it would be hard to turn away from them if i had room in my life for another dog.

finaly anything else you would like to say?

i wish that more people would judge my dogs based on what they *are* rather than what they're reported to be. i can't count the number of times i've had people petting my dogs who didn't have a clue what breed they were, and then backed away in horror when they found out. that's so incredibly sad to me.

and i wish people would stop believing that their pit bulls are dog-safe and putting them in situations that could turn disasterous. i've met so many people online who get pit bulls and think they're going to socialize and train the dog aggression out of them, only to have it backfire. sometimes it ends in disaster, sometimes just embarrassment. but every bad situation that a pit bull owner puts his or her dog into... that's one more strike against these dogs who are already in a very precarious place.

My answers are following the ********'s

hia i'm doing an artical in a mag on the breed so would anyone who owns one of the breed please answer some questions for me!

yes, currently 1, 4yrs. on 12/21, whose name is "Venus". pics in my gallery over at Game-dogs.com I am "Suki" over there. I'm at work and can't access my pics from here.
****************************************************

Could you tell me a bit about he/she?

She, is, as mentioned, almost 4 yrs old, extremely dog aggressive. about 42 lbs, is very intelligent, obdience trained, is my shadow=follows me EVERY where, sleeps during my abscence, does a 180 when I get home. In excellent condition, as she's exercised on a regular basis for up to 2hrs per day. Is TRULY, my very best friend! Never loved any animal more than I love her!
*************************************************
Why did you pick the breed?

I guess I've always been drawn to the breeds society deems as "dangerous"; rotts for 15 yrs, GSD for 5 years, and APBT on and off for 20 yrs. This time around tho, (and because I've always loved them), I wanted to "get back into them", after a 15 yr hiatus, now, especially, due to the "image" that, inparticular, the media portrays of them, I guess I just wanted to proove those idiots wrong: If you know nothing else about the APBT, people should know how human FRIENDLY this breed is, and not the other way around, and I want(ed) to help with that "cause". Be a good advocate, I 'spose, and help to educate others about this great breed, hence the moderating on Game Dogs=which i REALLY LOVE doing!
Also, I was initally drawn to this breed, due to their high level of intelligence, and their strong personalities, I guess, which is much like my own!:)
*******************************************************

Many people think that this breed is aggresive and has a bad image, what do you say about this?

I say, ANY breed can be aggressive. I believe in bad owners, NOT bad dogs. We, as a society, have domesticated dogs. If we have done our job insufficiently, WE are to blame, not the dogs. This is an opinion I feel VERY strongly about and won't budge on. Agreed, the "pit bull" DOES have a bad imagine, which I "enjoy" trying to "correct.
I like trying to proove a point, especially when I know I'm right.;)
********************************************************

would you pick this breed again and if so why?

I would NEVER choose another breed. I'm TRULY sold, hook, line and sinker! They are the BEST, imho.
**********************************************************Finaly anything else you would like to say?

What I would say, is, don't judge an APBT based on what you hear. To own one, is to understand. It's that simple. Own one, and understand! They are, imo, as my name states: second to NONE!
They are not, imo, a breed for everyone, or even for a novice. But, if you do your homework and learn everything you can about ALL that this breed entails, and if after you realize that they have certain "stigmas" that go along with them, and you still want to acquire one, I don't/can't imagine a better breed to own. Research them first! And also, too, to remember, that tho you may only be one onwer, YOUR actions regarding this breed effect EVERY other owner, unlike and moreso than any other breed. I guess, just be especially courteous and conscientious for and on behalf of other APBT owners as well.

Thankys anyone
you're welcome and BEST of luck with the article!

My uncle owns two so I am going to be a good niece and answer for him because I adore the both of his girls.

Charlie and Angel. No pics though. I haven't seen them since last year. I'll try and get some though!

Could you tell me a bit about he/she?
Two wonderful dogs. I grew up around Charlie not knowing she was even a pitbull. When I started becoming aware of my surroundings I noticed a lot of people thought they were mean dogs. I'd always defend them but those few attacks you hear of seem to make everyone seem so anti APBT. Charlie is no different then the family lab. Loves kids, loves cuddling, loves treats. She's a good old girl. Angel was adopted from the SPCA. She was thrilled to have a home of her own and has followed in Charlie's footsteps.

Why did you pick the breed?

As awful as it sounds I am pretty sure he did it for originally because they are "tough" guy dogs. By no means are his dogs encouraged into doing agressive behaviours but you know. Looks were probally first on the list when he brought his first pit home. But it wasn't looks that keep him coming back to the breed. It's their great personalities.

would you pick this breed again and if so why?

I personally have never owned one. I want one though! My mom likes the collies so based on her preference we do not have one. In the future I'd love to own one. They are good dogs when in good hands.

ooops forgot a question

Many people think that this breed is aggresive and has a bad image, what do you say about this?
I say they are pooh heads! It's dog racisim. Judge the individual, not the breed. I've met more of my breed (bc's) that bite then APBT's. It's not their fault they arel ike that. They either weren't taught proper behaviour or were taught wrong.

Her name is Messina and I will post the piccy at the end of the answers :)

She is currently 5 years old - born August 28th, 2001. Very charming young lady, very well mannered....extremely obedient and faithful...completely dedicated and TOO willing to please...a big cuddle butt...great with MOST other dogs..loves cats..hates squirrels...loves to go fishing with my boyfriend and I when we go to the cottage...a total clown..snores like an old man and dreams often (moves around in her sleep all the time)...loves food, all kinds of food...my best friend :)

I didn't pick the breed..the breed picked me. My father picked her up from a truck stop when some hitchikers couldn't keep her anymore because of the traveling and money issue...they did have papers with her, and asked if my dad could find a good home for her..so, he brought her home! Never had any experience with the breed prior to...started doing all the research after she came into my life and now I'm a pit bull fanatic..love the breed, don't want any other.

In regards to what people say about the breed....it has to do with the media picking on pitties because well, they get paid to come up with alot of bull crap...the pit bull is now a target just like the doberman and rottie were a few years ago...eventually, I know it will probably be some other breed in the future. Alot of the attacks that DO happen, happen because of irresponsible ownership, and definately irresponsible breeding.

Of course I would pick this breed again. Why? Because if you ain't got pit, you ain't got sh*t...lol j/k...no honestly, I just love these dogs...the look, the attitude, the dedication and faithfulness, willing to please....wonderful dogs with great personalities to match...plus, they're too darn cute :)

I would just like to say, punish the deed, not the breed :)
