Does anyone else use these for chew treats for thier dogs? Osa loves them. We get the 12 inch strips and it takes her a couple of days (we only let her chew on them for an hour at most a day) to go through one and they are suppose to be easily digested.

They are pretty much the only chews we give our dogs. I agree, they are incredibly expensive, but they are fully digestible and healthy. We only buy Red Barn Bully Sticks or Merrick Flossies because they are made/processed in the US. Cheaper chews come from Brazil, or worse, China.

Has anyone tried Beef Straps? At $.99 each, all natural, and made in the US they sound like a steal. http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/products/Redbarn-Beef-Straps/163047.aspx

Tons of people here use them this is the first place I've heard about them. I've never used one myself but when I finally get a dog I'll stock up for sure!

I use them regularly and Sierra LOVES them. They're the only real "chew" that lasts her more than a few minutes (I refuse to give her rawhide so I don't know how they'd do). I buy the 8" ones and they last her 2-3 days (she gets them for an hour or so at at time, or as something to knaw on in her crate while I'm out).

I buy them intermittently--they are costly! But Baxter really enjoys them--although he will go through an 8 inch one in 2 hours.

They're pricey, and Sarama will kill them pretty fast. But I do get them as special treats . . . if I ever seen some in bulk and on sale, I'll stock up. Right now I've got piles of vanilla cow ears and porky jerky pumpers that I got that way . . . just have to bargain hunt. I'm sure I'll find bully sticks that way sooner or later.

Herschel, I've tried them and don't like them for my dogs - they are very hard, and Hannah will bite into them and they splinter. I just don't trust them after seeing how they formed shards when bitten into. Maybe they'd work with smaller dogs, or dogs that aren't very aggressive chewers, I don't know...but just thought I'd throw my experience out there. :)

Bullies are great but too expensive for my power-chewers to get regularly.

The beef straps are ok for small dogs but Eve took one chomp on one and it splintered and cut her gums. They're too brittle.

Ilsa went through her teething stages on bully sticks, we love 'em! Expensive though, especially with strong chewers.

Thanks for the input. Do they splinter into fibers or do they break? Bully sticks become fibrous as they get chewed down, do you know what I mean?

I pick up a couple of the nice organic ones ( they really aren't as stinky as the other ones) everytime I go to get dog food. Django goes through them in no time flat though, so they are only an occasional treat.

Have small dogs they last for a decent amount of time around here.

Brawt loves them and would eat the whole thing in one setting if I would let him -- but I let him give his jaw a good workout and then take it away from him.

My Norwich loves them, it's fun to watch her drag around the 36" sticks. Anyone know what the sticks are made of? Where do you purchase yours?

Best to keep an eye on the dog and discard the stick before it gets small enough to swallow. There have been several cases of choking...
