I don't mean this to sound snarky, but seriously, why should I use a blanket? I can promise when I breastfed you would only see something if you happened to be really looking and staring while I was either latching on of the baby popped off. I am extremely modest and self conscious but yes, I breastfed pretty much everywhere and NEVER used a blanket. Main reason is my daughter would refuse to nurse under one but also they were very awkward and uncomfortable for me as well.

Oh and want to add...I have many friends that are very staunch breastfeeding supporters. In my close circle of friends I can count 3 la leche league leaders;) NONE of us has EVER purposely shown nipple or "let it all hang out".

I don't think it's right for pro brestfeeding moms to force their beliefs on moms who can't or choose not to, tho I am not a mom, that doesn't seem right to me.
But it's ok for non-parents to try and force their beliefs on parents by basically telling them that's disgusting? (like in restaurants or when you can't walk away)

Not to mention that it's a legally protected right for women to nurse in public without a cover...

I didn't say to suffocate yourself and your baby under a blanket, did I? I just mentioned having tact. Now, I didn't imply YOU did t use any, but you cannot say that ALL breastfeeding moms are tactful. My sis-in-law sat in that restaurant with her entire boob hanging out while switching my niece to the other side. Becsuse of our central seating location, it was quite visible to anyone with eyeballs.

I won't say I'm right, but I refuse to say I'm wrong in saying that a breastfeeding mom can take a little care to be as discreet as possible (and I'm not even talking about covering up, but rather just taking a bit of care to maintain a modicum of modesty in public places). JMO

I dont think anyone was commenting on your post. I think it was more towards dogdragoness. Whole boob and nipply hanging out is a huge no no in my circles.

huh???

Its not a belief that its better.

Its not a belief that for some mom's its very hard and for others impossible.

Its not a belief that some choose not to which is fine

The only thing that makes me livid is the moms who fail because of pressure from others or from crappy information given to them...and thats not at mom's, but at society.

I don't understand why breastfeeding in public is such an issue, especially when a baby is hungry. I think people obsess about breasts too much. For thousands of years humans mostly walked around nude, boobs and all... and they survived. People still do in some parts of the world.

Yeah cuz I'm the bad guy I guess lol but I to agree with her, have a little dignity about it eh? That's what we saw when I was a kid, like your sister with your niece boobs all hanging out like a cow for all to see, ok I understand it's a right but why abuse it & ruin it for everyone else who IS being modest about it.

I do get thr willies about it but I can usually 'grin & bear it' if thr mom is being modest about it... Mom ways used a blanket for latching she said & she had a nursing be & wore button down shirts while she was brestfeeding & yes when that mom who let it all hang out like an ep of girls gone wild, she told her a thing or two.

But I think you're missing the point dogdragoness - you can be discrete *without* using a blanket, and in many cases, using a cover makes things MORE obvious because the child doesn't like being covered or mom can't latch as easily while covered.

HOnestly, I really really hope we come to the point where there is no 'be discreet' about it. So many other cultures its just so NORMAL and everyone is used to seeing it. So many other cultures women go topless just because....why are we so scared of nipples? of breasts? Is it because of patriarchy? I kind of think so but sadly other women seem to be the most judgemental.

I totally admit at festivals where women are topless I get all uncomfortable and dont know where to look...but IMO I SHOULDNT feel that way. Its a body, we all have them!

Well whatever way is more discret I would prefer that, sorry if I seem to not be getting this, I have never (nor will EVER) have/had kids so the dinamics of breast feeding are strange to me, as in how one goes about being discret.

You say I am being insensitive... But don't the feelings of others matter too? I mean smoking is banned in most public resturants because ppl complained enough about it (yes I am a smoker but I never smoked in restaurants even when you could) I just wish you still could in bars... Nuthin like a cig & a beer ;)
