Just dropped her off this morning at 6 for her gastropexy (stomach tacking) and spay. I know she'll be alright but I hate that "why are you leaving me here" look. I know where my mind will be all day.

Will be allowed to pick her up at 6 tonight but the poor girl will need to spend probably 2 weeks off of her paws. I don't know how she is going to handle that as that girl is all go, go... go.

I suppose it's for the best however. We've never tacked any of our other Danes so I'm hoping that it's worth it to get that extra added peace of mind.

I really do think it is worth it. No use telling you not to worry, I am preaching to the choir. She will be fine though!

She's been out of surgery for about 3 hours now and I'm told it went very well. She threw up right after though and they're monitoring her for the time being. My vet and the tech are going to decide whether or not I can bring her home tonight in the next half hour. I'm sure they will, somebody is home at all times and I my schedule is completely open for the next couple of weeks. I just want to see my girl. :(

Hope she can sleep in her own bed tonight !
I hope so too, not too happy right now.

They want to keep her overnight.

So I asked the tech over the phone if anybody was going to be there.

"Clinic closes at 6, some techs stay till 7 and a checkup is done at midnight."

This is before they come in at 8 AM. If there is any concern about her than she can come home where I can keep an eye on her. There is no way I am going to leave my dog alone for basically 12+ hours just after surgery. Ridiculous.

Can't even talk to my vet considering he's back in surgery.

Hoping to see that last night was uneventful!

Glad you made them release Boots. I've never understood WHY it's better to leave a dog alone, overnight, in a strange kennel when there isn't going to be someone there to monitor versus going home where someone WILL be there.

We've had both ours tacked when they were spayed. Both times they were kept over night, BUT our vet is a 24h Emergency so there's always several people there all hours of the night, including the on-call vet for the night shift. I felt very save leaving them there over night, I would go visit at about 8 then say goodbye and see them in the morning. I would probably have fought to bring them home same-day if they were going to be unattended at night...

Thanks everyone.

Last night was pretty good. She threw up some stomach content just before settling down for the night but slept pretty good albeit a little restless. I wanted to stay up to keep an eye on her just in case. This morning she threw up a little too when she went out to go to the washroom but she finally decided to drink a little water and that has stayed down. She's doing a lot better today, just resting and sleeping on her couch where she can keep on eye on everything.

How long before she's cleared to eat anything?
Said we could try her today in the afternoon but I think we'll wait until tomorrow morning most likely. We tried offering her some of her cookies and boiled liver to see if she was hungry but she didn't even want it anywhere near her. It's been about 40 hours since she's had anything in her system, she has to be working up a little bit of an appetite I would think and hope.

I don't know if you have nutrical, but you might give her a bit of that. Not sure if she has the issue, but Aesop always pukes on an empty stomach. It would give her little something in her system without working her stomach too much.

The Nutrical would be a good idea. You might try giving her a little chicken broth, too. Maybe with some finely minced chicken.

Kharma will puke if her stomach is too empty. That might be why Boots has been vomiting some.
