They are illegal in all of Canada. Even good parents can turn their back for a second and something will happen. Kids move fast in those things. They might go down the stars although baby gates should be up (obviously) but they also get access to things they wouldn't normally be able to reach like a pot of hot water or knives off the table/counter. On top of that there have been studies done that show that walkers aren't actually good for the development of babies.

They aren't even allowed to be sold in thrift stores or garage sales in Canada. Or imported from the US. And even with that law many hospitals still report baby walker accidents every month.

Personally, I think they can be safe just be sure to always supervise them. They aren't something you can put your baby in to keep her safe while you are doing something else.

My mom had one and the first time she put my sis in she gave a big kick and went straight down three stairs. Mom and Dad were just setting her in it to see if she liked it and couldn't believe how fast she moved! lol She was fine but they were both horrified of course. Later she said she really liked using it when we were camping and we couldn't move that fast on dirt, grass or gravel lol

I don't understand how the walker makes it easier for them to reach the stove? There is a big tray around it, which makes them further away from it, than they will be when they walk. This is what I don't get? What are you going to do when they start walking? Cuz they are A LOT more likely to get into trouble walking than being in a walker with a big trey around it so they can't get as close to tables and stoves and such.

^^^^ thats what I was thinking and the only table in my house she could think of touching in the coffee table. And our house was built in the 50s so it has all the appliances besides the fridge in the wall or in the counter. and if they get to knives those are some low counters. I couldnt reach the counters in our kitchens without a chair until i was well over 5

The trays are usually only on the front... so they can get very close at the sides or the back and babies are master contortionists lol.

I also heard that they aren't great for development and can even delay walking sometimes.

the delaying walking and develpment arent true of my family at least. I was walking WELL at a year old along with my brother. all the ones I have seen also have a high back so I know at least from stories of my moms that neither me or my brother could do anything if we did in fact turn around.

I had one . . . I was walking well before 1 year and skipped crawling entirely. (Knowing me, I probably didn't want to get my knees and hands dirty  )

Oy. I saw the thread title and the person who started it, and thought "Ban Walker?? Why would they want to enact BSL on Breeze's dog??"

LOL that's just what I have read :p

hannah's walker doesn't have a high back... but again it doesn't have much of anything lol. It does have brakes though :D

My mom used it when she was here and looked after hannah for me one morning but it was first thing in the morning (when Hannah is her happiest)... it's such a boring walker that any other time she just can't be bothered with it lol.

BUT they also say babies shouldn't be allowed to watch the TV either... hannah watches TV :D and she doesn't seem dumbed down at all lol.

I read the same thing about delaying development... Mostly because babies can move in there so why would they bother trying to walk? I can see the point honestly.

I doubt I'll buy one. Exersaucer maybe but even then... I think nothing beats a good play pen and toys on the floor :D

I agree... although if I am in the kitchen... I don't want Hannah playing on THAT floor lol. she will likely find some dog pee from a midnight accident that I missed hahahaha

I thought that idea too Fran until I got my pack n play and it doesnt fit through the halls or doorways in my house :yikes: and we have terrazzo floors throughout so I really dont want her able to bang herself on them to much.

Fold it up :D

We had to do that when we moved it into the computer room. I honestly had never used it before then so we weren't sure how it folded up....

You should have seen us... must have been like watching a monkey try to hump a football. When we figured it out we felt really stupid. all we had to do was pull the cord on the bottom HAHAHAHA DUHHHHHH
