I really have nothing much to say, I dont think my post warranted the attack im getting.

Ok, my dog isn't 100% healthy, shes going deaf. the vet IS going to do further testing . I want to know how bad it is, if she can recover, how long it will take the get worse, which ear has more hearing, etc.... I have questions. If I did make it seem that way in chat well then im sorry, I wasn't thinking clearly and was still pretty shocked by what the vet found out.

Im sorry for calling her "fit as a fiddle". some people took offense to that but I do think shes pretty healthy. Shes active, eats well, and is free of any other problems other than her hearing. I guess its not as big a deal to me as it is to some people here.

I think thats my last contribution to this thread. I dont know what else to say.
Sorry If my post insulted anyone.

You know I read the posts and I never really saw much nasty. Just saying that as a definition fit as a fiddle doesn't usually encompass hearing loss.

No one said anything bad about you or your dog... I don't know why it really became an issue to be honest.

When I say he has no idea of my aspirations, he has no idea of my aspirations. He doesn't even know I'm interested in buying the dog at this point in time.

All I did was sit and play with the puppies a bit and ask a few questions and talk with them a bit about the dogs. Then I asked if the puppies were from his dogs and he said yes, so I asked to meet the parents (since I've never actually met them face to face before, just walked by them while walking my dog so as to avoid potential dog fights) and then asked if they were planning on selling the puppies. He said yes, that one has been spoken for already though, so there's still 5 more to buy.

And the reason they're so low in price is because he just wants rid of them as they came at an inconvenient time for him with his divorce and everything. But he doesn't want to just give them away because he knows what happens to some of those dogs as well.

That much I'd gotten from him. I didn't go too in depth about the health of the parents, just said 'they're beautiful dogs, where'd you get them?'
Frankly, I always have asked about where my pups are going, the lifestyle, the home, fences or no, kids? cats? and how often they will be alone..... and so on, but I don't always know what they do for a living, nor do I care, it's not their day job I am concerned about but their homelife/ lifestyle....

My 2 cents, I don't want to/ nor would I support a Mill Type BYB, however, some "ethical breeders" by others standards, don't cut it for me....

I would much, much prefer a pet from a home where they have a few dogs they love, whom have awesome rock solid temperaments and are tested for problems known in the breed.... Even if they have no titles, have never worked or shown.... Than buy from an "Ethical breeder" who has all the right answers, tests, show champions etc.. but in reality only breeds for the next Rosette and there are plenty of them around!

For my goals, for my next dog, I personally need the proof of working ability, however If I was looking for a pet, and not a working dog....

I have had three Chi's in the past that came from homes that likely fit the description of BYB, all were great dogs, awesome well tempered pets, and two lived to a healthy old age as loving companions, which is what I wanted them to be....

I agree. Fran, no one was putting you down. I saw Mafia repeat something *you* said, and was just saying that in her opinion, that's not fit as a fiddle. She wasn't being rude. I didn't see anyone say anything bad about you as an owner, or Kenya. They were talking strictly health.

I wouldn't take offense if someone said my dogs weren't healthy because of a certain problem they have. Because all my dogs are rescues from f-ed up backgrounds and all have at least one thing wrong with them. Some minor, some major.

I don't see any issue with the topic of Kenya's health that warranted taking offense to.

I agree with fluffy. If she Mafia had said it and it wasnt true, and you didnt say it. I could see WHY you would have gotten upset. But you did say it, and quite frankly, unless you had said after you mentioned it "Dont say anything though, i dont want to bring it up until i know for sure" then there isnt a reason to be upset.

You said Kenya was fit as a fiddle, wouldnt that be considered false considering your situation? She just corrected what you said.

Yeah, and I understand that Fran. No one is picking on you, I'm sorry if it came that way. I was shocked to hear Kenya's having hearing problems too, and I hope you guys get it sorted out soon.

how many GSD are sitting in shelters right now?

I can go get you 10 right now to pick from...and if we hit up the shelter a few cities over thats in an urban area...we can pick from 30 more im sure.

And no one is going to adopt 90% of them.

Doesn't that hurt anyone else but me?

As someone that has personally worked in a shelter and even sentence some of the GSDs to death because no rescues would take them and they were a liability to adopt out... as someone that worked hard to improve the many many behavior problems that most all the GSDs came into the shelter with, but still could not get them to a point in which people would like to adopt such a high maintanence dog.. as someone that fell in love with the breed for their disposition, despite some temperament problems.. oh hell ya it hurts me to see any dog put to sleep and not given a chance.

But the fact is, GlassOnion NOR us know much about the dogs. He still has more research to do. If it is true they are working line dogs,... if they are health tested, if they are raised in the home, and if the breeder actually more carefully screens potential buyers.. who am I to throw a fit about someone purchasing a puppy? FAct is, we don't know all the facts yet, and I don't think it is fair to go on acting as if we do. Me... I'm waiting to hear back what more GO can find out about the breeder and pups.

But of course.. I'd much much rather love to see him adopt a GSD, considering he things he could handle them so well.

ETA: Just because we aren't attacking or being overly dramatic about it does not mean that we don't care about dogs in shelters. Maybe we just value courtesy, compassion, kindness and the ability to be reasonable and calm. ;)

Scan back thru this thread... That was the point of about 90% of the last half of the pages. It hurts a lot of people that care about all the dogs dying in shelters, including all the amazing GSD's that'll die before they ever get placed in a loving home.

Well, you've got mine right up there ^^^

I don't think anyone is necessarily PRO BYB, just not PRO jump on the bandwagon and attack before we know all the facts. We have very little to work with here, and GO is going to do a little more research (good for him)...

BYB is a broad term, and what you consider a BYB, I might not. So just because I may say that supporting a breeder that does not show, but does health test and does most everything else right, you may classify me as PRO BYB, but I personally am not.

What I am, is PRO reasonable discussion. ;) We don't have all the facts yet, plain and simple. I'm awaiting more facts.
